DISPLAY STAND Filed March 17, 1927 INVENTOR ATTO R N EY Patented 6, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHAEL L. MOLAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSEGNOR 'IO PURITY BAKERIEE SERV- ICE CORPORATION, OF CHICAGO, ILLINUIS.
DISPLAY STAND.
Application filed March 1'? This invention relates to certain novel improvements in display stands and more particularly to a stand for supporting bahery goods or the like in an observatory position and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly efiicient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the several objects of the inven tion is the provision of a display stand of this character which may be expeditiously collapsed and assembled in a compact con dition to facilitate storage or shipping pur poses. A further object of the invention is the provision of a display stand of this character wherein bakery goods is supported on the stand in a manner which will not place one of the bakery goods in obstructing positionwith respect to other bakery goods upon the stand.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred form of my invention, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view taken substantially on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional detail View taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary sectional detail View taken substantially on line 47-4; of Fig. 1. p i
In describing the construction of my invention, while I have shown in the drawings the elements of the display stand as being formed of wood, it is pointed out that the elements may be of other material such as sheet metal or the like.
The preferred form of construction of my invention includes side plates 10 which have their upper edge portions formed to provide offsets 12. Within these offsets 12 are adapted to be arranged the supporting platforms 13. Each supporting platform 13 is formed of a single unit and comprises end strips 14: to which the transverse supporting cleats 15 are connected through the medium of nails 16. Secured to these platforms and extending substantially at right angles with respect thereto are base plates 17 which abut the edges 18 of the offsets 12, the platforms being 'detachably connected to the edges 19 of the offsets 19:.
I The end plates 10 are supported in an inclined position through the medium of vertical standards 20 which have their upper end portions 21 connected to the end plates through the medium of nails 22 and their. lower end portions 23 connected to the end portions 2 1 of the base strips 25 through the medium of nails 26 or other securing elements. The inner end portions 27 of the base strips 25 are secured to the lower end portions 28 of the end plates 10 through the medium of nails 29 or other securing ele ments. These lower end portions 28 of the end strips 10 are bevelled upwardly and inwardly as at 30 and secured to the bevelled edge is a holder 31. This holder 31 has secured at its end portions 32 ll-shaped clips 33. These holders 33 are adapted to receive the end portions of a cardboard strip (not shown) which is adapted to be disposed over the face of the plate 34: of the holder 31 and it is intended that there be printed on this cardboard strip a slogan pertaining to the particular articles supported by the display stand.
The upper end' portions 35 of the end plates 10 have substantially horizontal edges 36 upon which a platform 37 rests. This platform 37 carries a railing 38. This railing is formed of suitable wire and extends along the two ends of the platform 37 and the rear edge thereof as best shown in 2. This railing 38 comprises leg portions 39 which are adapted to have their lower end portions frictionally inserted in openings 40.
As herein stated it is an object of this invention to provide a display stand which may be expeditiously disassembled and this is accomplished by associating with the platforms 13 pins 41. These pins 41 are adapted to frictionally engage in openings 412 formed in the inclined edges 19. The holder 31 and the platform 37 are likewise provided with pins 13 which are adapted to frictionally engage in openings it formed in the end plates 10. It will be seen that the platforms 13 and 37 and holder 31 may be detached from the end plates 10 and, when shipped, placed upon the end plates 10 in a convenient manner thus providing a compact parcel, it being pointed out that when the display stand is disassembled the railing 38 may be removed if desired from the platform 37.
The platforms 13 are adapted to receive and support cakes or the like in an upward inclined position while the platform 37 is adapted to receive and support cookies or the like, certain of said cookies being placed in a vertical position against the railing 38.
From the above description it will be manifest that I provide a display stand which may be economical in manufacture and which can be expeditiously collapsed when required.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction'set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1.'In a display stand, substantially triangular end members mounted in vertical position in spaced apart relation, an angularly disposed strip extending between said end members at the forwardly disposed ends thereof, the upper edge of the hypotenuse of said triangular end members having serrations formed thereon, said serrations including spaced apart edges extending transverselyto said hypotenuse and other edges extending between the inner ends of said first named edges of said serrations and the outer ends of upwardly disposed juxtaposed first named edges, the upper end of said hypotenuse being truncated to provide a portion extending parallel to the base por- .tion of said triangular end members, a platform mounted on said parallel extending portions, platforms mounted on said second named edges of said serrations, and rails mounted on said first named edges co-extensive with said platforms for retaining articles mounted on said platforms for display.
2. In a display stand, substantially triangular end members mounted in vertical position in spaced apart relation, an angularly disposed strip extending betweei'i said end members at the forwardly disposed ends thereof, the upper edge of the hypotenuse of said triangular members having serrations formed thereon, said serrations including spaced apart edges extending transversely to said hypotenuse and other edges extending between the inner ends of said first named edges of said serrations and the outer ends of upwardly disposed juxtaposed first named edges, the upper end of said hypotenuse being truncated to provide a portion extending parallel to the base portions of said triangular end members a platform detachably mounted on said parallel extending portions, rails detachably mounted on said first named edges and cooperating with said platforms to retain articles mounted thereon for display, said detachable mountings including pins inserted into openings formed in said end members, and a railing mounted around said platform on said parallel extending portions.
3. In a display stand, substantially triangular end members mounted in vertical position in spaced apart relation, an angularly disposed strip extending between said end members at the forwardly disposed ends thereof, the upper edge of the hypotenuse of said triangular end members having serrations formed thereon, said serrations including spaced apart edges extending transversely to said hypotenuse and other edges extending between the inner ends of said first named edges of said serrations and the outer ends of upwardly disposed juxtaposed first named edges, the upper end of said hypotenuse being truncated to provide a portion extending parallel to the base portions of said triangular end members, a
platform mounted on said parallel extending portions, said end members having openings provided therein extending inwardly from said second named edges of said serrations, platforms on said second named edges of said serrations having openings therein adjacent the ends thereof, and pin members extended through the openings in said platforms and into said openings in said end members whereby to detachably connect said platforms to said edges.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
MICHAEL L. MOLAN.
