EXTENSION DEVICE FOR BRACELETS.

Application filed November This invention relates'to improvements in an extension device for bracelets, more particularly watch bracelets for holding a wrist watch on the arm of the wearer; and the object of the invention is to provide a plurality of sections hinged together to be fold ed one upon the other and to be unfolded or extended end to end to temporarily lengthen the bracelet so that it may be p2. :"ed over the hand of the wearer without detaching the bracelet parts one from the other.

A further object of the invention the provision of simple and effective means whereby the sections may be folded and nested one within the other and detachably secured in folded position to hit closely about the wrist of the wearer.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features cf constructimi, as vill be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

It found in the construction of bracelets of this character particularly of the watch type of bracelet, desirable to permanently attach the ends of the bracelet parts to the opposite bails of a watch and con: nect an extension device between the opposite bracelet parts whereby the device may be unfolded to lengtlu-m the bracelet to such an e nt that it may be readily passed over the hand of the wearer without completely disconnecting the bracelet parts from each other; and to accomplish this in a simple and effective way, I have formed the extension device in three parts, two elongated and channel members pivotally connected by a pair of spaced side plates, the side plates being pivoted inside of the main channel section and to the outside of the other channel section whereby the side plate sec tions may nest within the main channel section and the other channel section nest between the side plates of the side plate sec tions thereby providing a very compact and neat construction when folded by which construction a bridge member is supported between the side walls of one of the sections and a connecting stud supported from the bottom wall of the other channel section to snap over the edge of this bridge member and so detachably connect the whole together; and the following is a detailed description of the present en'il'iodiment of my invention and showing one means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished:

lVith reference to the drawings, 10 designates the main channel section which is formed of two side plates 11 along the outer edges of which are soldered a plurality of section cover plates 12 of a size, shape and design of the bracelet links carrying the intricate decorations of these links, whereby this elongated main channel member has the appearance of being formed of a plurality of separate links 13 like the rest of the bracelet parts 14.

I have also provided a second channel section 15 which is connected to the main channel by a section formed of a pair of spaced side plates 16 which plates are pivoted at one end at 17 to the main channel member and at its opposite end 18 to the second channel member 15. This second channel member 15 is provided with a bottom wall 19 into which is riveted a fastening stud member 20 having a T-shaped head 21.

A fastening bridge or latch member 22 preferably formed in U-shape is provided with reduced laterally-extending end portions 23 to fit into notches 24 in the side plates of the main channel section to be soldered therein flush with the upper edge of these side plates and the loop of the U to extend down between these side plates, as

' best illustrated in Fig. 12, whereby when the sections are folded one within the other the stud or catch 20 of the channel member 15 is caused to snap over the edge 2& of this bridge member 22, as best shown in Fig. a, to releasably retain these sections in nested or folded relation.

To one end 26 of the main channel section the bracelet part 14 is connected, while to the pivot 26 at the opposite end of the second channel section 15 the other part 1 1 of the bracelet is connected, whereby the unfolding of the extension device temporarily extends the operating length of the bracelet to be readily passed over the hand of the wearer and when folded shortens the brace let so as to fit snugly about the wrist of the wearer to firmly retain the watch in position onthe wearers arm.

My improved device is very simple and practical in construction and is effective in its operation and by it use the length of the bracelet may be sufliciently extended to permit it to pass freely over the hand of the wearer.

The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a bracelet, an extension device comprising two channel-shaped sections pivotally connected together by a pair of side plates, said plates to nest inside of one clian nel section and the other channel to nest between said side plates, one of said channel sections having a U-shaped latch member supported on its side walls and the other of said channel sections having a cooperating catch member arranged to snap into ongagement with said'latch member to releasably retain the sections in folded position.

In a bracelet, an extension device comprising two channel-shaped sections )ivotally connected together by a pair 0' side plates, said plates to nest inside of one channel section and the other channel to nest between said plates, one of said channel sections having a latch member rigidly secured thereto and positioned between said side plates, and the other of said channel sections having a cooperating catch member arranged to snap into engagement with said latch member to relcasably retain the sections in folded position.

3. In a bracelet, an extension device comprising a plurality of end sections pivotally connected together by a pair of side plates, said side plates nesting inside one end section and the other end section nesting between said side plates, one of said end sections having a latch member rigidly fixed thereto and positioned between its side walls, and the other of said end sections having a rigidly fixed cooperating catch member arranged to snap into engagement with said latch member to releasably retain the sections in folded position.

4:. In a bracelet, an extension device comprising a plurality of arcuate end sections pivotally connected together by a pair of side plates, said side plates nesting inside one end section and the other end section nesting between said side plates, one of said end sections having a latch member rigidly fixed to its side walls, and the other of said end sections having a rigidly fixed cooperating catch member arranged to snap into ongagement with said latch member to releasably retain the sections in folded position.
