Description

Patented July 2, 1929. V
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WEBSTER .TRAUGER, OF BINGHAMTON, AND CLARENCE JOHN SME'IHERS, O1
JOHNSON CITY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNORS TO FAIR PLAY IPOBATION OF NEW YORK.
CARAMELS, me, A con METHOD OF PACKING CARAMELS R CONFECTIONS.
Application filed May 1,
This invention relates to a package and a method of packing confectionery therein of the type usually known as suckers which are impaled upon a stick which serves as a handle for holding the same while it 1s being consumed.
It is an object of this invention to provide a method of packing such confectionery whereby the impaling sticks are arranged in upright positions so that single p eces can be readily removed from the contamer, and which presents an orderly array likely to promote sales.
The invention comprises the novel method hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims. 7
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred method of carrying out this invention, and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views- On the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a container with the cover removed illustrating the method of packing the confectionery.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the container.
As shown on the drawings:
In carrying out this invention, the operator takes a suitable container 1 which is shown as in the form of a box, and places the wrapped and impaled pieces 2 of confec tionery therein in adjacent series 3 with the impaling sticks 4 inupright position, the
pieces in each series are packed closely together and one series is packed closely against its adjacent series, consequently the impaling sticks 4 are maintained in sub- 1926. Serial N0. 105,949. 7
stantial parallel upright relation. A cover 5 having deep lateral sides 6 is then applied to the container, and rests upon the impalproject above the top of in that the impaling sticks project above the container and support the cover which encloses the impaling means. When the cover is removed the sticks will be brought into full view, and a piece of confectionery may rpaiily be removed by grasping its impaling s 10 We are aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range with out departing from the principles of this invention, and we therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
We claim as our invention:
1. The method of packing impaled pieces of confectionery which consists in packing said pieces in upright position in a container with the impaling sticks projecting above such container and slipping a free cover over the container so that the cover is supported on the tops of said impaling sticks.
, 2.-An article of manufacture comprising a container consisting of a body portion, impaled pieces of confection packed side by side in said portion with the impaling means extending above the body portion, and a free cover telescoped over the body and supported upon said impaling means.-
In testimony whereof, we subscribed our names.
JOHN WEBSTER TRAUGER. CLARENCE JOHN SMETHERS.
