WILLIAM JOHNA MCKEE, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOE-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,30] dated December 21, 1875; application filed July 28, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM JOHN MCKEE, of city of Pittsburg, in the county of nAllegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have -invented certain new and useful Improvements in regard to Shoe-Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,` which will enable others ,skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
My invention consists in an improved fastening for the style ot shoehaviug side openings, and is designed'to produce a heater iit of the shoe `and prevent the foot from slipping up and down in walking.
Figure l shows side view of shoe, with fastening open. Fig. 2 shows side view of shoe, with fastening closed. Fig. 3 shows rear view ot' the shoe, with fastening open.
To enable those skilled to fully understand my invention I will proceed to describe the construction and operation of the saine.
The straps a a are attached to the outside of the back quarters of the shoe, but with the free end towardthe Vamp or front quarters. The front quarters are provided on their inner sides with the loops c c. The fasteningstraps are passed through the loops, and the longer strap a, which has an ordinary buckle, A,A attached, is brought around to the side of the shoe and secured in the usual manner. lt
-Wi1l be seen that by this construction both cured, so that in drawing the straps the draft' is in ameasure in a diagonal direction, tightly closing the front quarters over the back quarters, producing a neat tit over the instep, and preventing the foot from slipping up and down in walking. i
Having thus described myinvention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A shoe-fastening, consisting of the loops c c, attached to the inside ot' the front quarters oI" a shoe, and the straps a a, attached to the outside of the back quarters iu a line slightly above the loops, and adapted to operate substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aix my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
