SAFETY RAZOR.

My invention relates to safety razors, and particularly to means for storing extra blades in, and withdrawing them singly for use, from the handle, and also to means for clamp- I ing a blade in and removing it from the aws.
My invent-ion comprises with other features, a special magazine for holding a nurnber of blades, means for placing and retain-v ing the magazine in the handle, means for withdrawing the blades singly from the mag azine and handle, `means for securing a single blade in the clamping jaws, and means for releasing and withdrawing the blade from the aws. 3 In order that my invention may be fullyv understood, l will first describe in detail the mode in which ll at present, prefer to carry the invention into practice, and then particularly point out the novelfeatures of the inl' vention in the claims.

Pivot pins 19, ixedby preference in the opposite ends of the recessed back of the upper jaw turn in pivot holes in the ears 16, and permit the upper jaw to swing to and from the lower jaw.

The clamping jaws 11 and 17 are normally pressed togetherupon the blade 15 by a roughly U-shape plate spring 21, the lower plate of which is perforated to receive the handle stud 10 and is pressed upon the shoulder 22 of the handle by the lower jaw 11, when screwed upo the stud 10,"as stated. removing and relacing the blade 15 therebetween, I prefer to cut in the back of the upper jaw 17, medially a forwardly extending slot 22,and on each side of said slot form on the underside of the upper jaw a downwardlyV projecting pairfof ears 23, having upwardly extending recesses 24.

pivot pin 25 of a cam lever 26 working in the slot 22A, the cam bearing of which cam lever works on the upper surface of the lower jaw and the inserted stud 10, and has a rearwardly projecting arm 27, by which the cam lever can be raised as shown in Figure 2' toopen the jaws or lowered as shown in Figure 4, to permit the spring 21 to close the jaws upon the Y blade.
To provide forstoring a package of blades y in the hollow handle 7, and forremoving the blades therefrom si'ngl as needed, I prefer to pack a number of bla es 15 in a special case 28, of wood or other light and cheap ma terial, having a medial axial squared bore 29 open at both ends, and opening forwardly through a narrower slot 30 in its front wall 31.
The packed blades are pressed against the inside of the front wall 31, by a longitudinal strip 32, acting as a follower, bearing against the rearmost blade and pressed thereagainst by springs 38 held in recesses 34 in the back of the bore 29, and pressing against both ends of the follower 32. All the blades in the case y26, except the foremost blade, are held against longitudinal. displacement lin the case by a cover 35 screwed over the open bottom of the case, and having a slot 36, in londuction of the blades between the follower' and the front wall 3l. s
The case or magazine 28 containing the .blades is fitted to and inserted in the front portion of the tubular handle 7 s In the rear portion of said handle is fitted to slide longitudinally, a blade ejector carrier 40,-to the face of which is attached a spring arm 41 .having on its upper end a blade hook 4X2,-
which projects through and rides in the slot 30 in the wall of the case. The blade hook 42 projects forwardly enough to engage the upper edge of one blade only, and to the back of the carrier is attached an ejector button 44,
by a screw 43, projecting through and riding f .j in a longitudinal slot 45, formed in the rear of the handle wall. j
The ejector carrier 40, is normally pressed upwardby a coiled spring 46, inserted in a tubular guide 47 forming the lower portion of lthe carrier, the upper end of the spring Ibearing against the solid upper head 48 of the carrier, and the lower`end of the spring bearing against a plunger`49, fitted loosely in the tubular carrier4 guide 47, and having a stem 50 projecting through the constricted lower opening 51 of the guide and resting on the inside of the handle cap 8, to hold the same against turning.
j Thus, by simply depressing the button 44 with the finger, `a single blade is easily ejected so that it can be withdrawn by hand from the handle through the slots 36 and 37, for use in the clamping head of the razor as previously` described.
It is evidenttnat many changes may be made in the specific construction and arrangement ofmy invention herein described without departin from the boundaries thereof as defined y the following claims.
The means for storing and dispensing the blades shown and described herein are not claimed herein but form the subject of a se aratev application for patent filed by me ugust 15th, 1928, Serial No. 299,755.
I claim as my invention: L 1

A- safety razor comprising-v a handle having an end stud, a U-shape plate spring havingits inner branch perforated to receive the stud, a fixed blade-clamping'jaw screwing on the stud against the inner' branch of the plate spring, a movable blade-clamping jaw pivoted to the Xed jaw; -the outer branch of therplatespring pressing on the outside of the outer jaw, and means'for separating the movable jawagainst the pressure of the plate spring from the fixed jaw.
