The sheave consists of a member 1 of arcuate fori'nation which includes a back 2 and side flanges 3, said flanges supporting the transversely disposed bolts 4-, preferably live in number, and upon which are journaled the grooved rollers 5 which are providcdwith openings 6 for the introduction oi a lubricant.
In order to anchor the member 1 to the frame 7 of the derricktl a pair of brackets ll are provided which consist of integrally connected angular-1y disposed arms 10 and 11 which have their ends engaged upon the opposite faces of the flanges and are secured by certain of the bolts 4-. These brackets will be olwiously maintained in spaced relation and the arms 10 and 11. at their mergin points are formed with circular openings 12 having restricted entrance slots 13, the purpose of which will appear later.
In order that the sheave can be anchored to the derrick a hook 14; is employed and has its shank swiveled to a head 15, the ends of which are provided with headed trunnions 16. These trunnions have fiat faces 17 to permit the lugs to pass through the entrance slots 13, and upon turning the head the :t'aces 17 will assume a position as shown in Figure 5, thus preventing the lugs from accidentally slipping from the openings 12; The hook 14- can then be engaged with the derrick upon attaching the same to a Wire loop 18 or in any other manner found desirable. lit will be observed that the hook lat can be conveniently removed upon swinging the same to a position to permit the trunnions to pass through the slots 13, thereby permitting the cable to be passed lJGlZWQGH the brackets 9 for engagement with the rollers, whereupon the hook is replaced.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the cable 19 can be easily trained over the rollers 5 ol' the sheave and unwound from the reel 20 over the block pulley 21 for winding on the bull wheel 22, and owing to the radius oft-he member 1 the danger of the cable kinking during the winding thereof is positively eliminated.
Since the cable is under stress during the winding thereof it will be maintained in the grooves of the rollers and efl'cctively guided in its travel.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. A device of the class described, comprising an arcuate member including spaced side flanges, bolts supported by the flanges, rollers journaled on the bolts, brackets secured to certain of said bolts, and means for ancl'ioring the brackets to a support.
2. A. sheave of the class dcscril d, cornprising an arcuate member including a back and spaced side flanges, bolts SllppOlt Ul transversely of the member by the flanges, rollers located between the flanges and journalcd on the bolts, brackets including angularly disposed arms, said arms having their ends fixed to certain oi said bolts, and means secured. between the bracrets tor anchoring the sheave to a support.
3. A. device of the class described comprising a member having rollers supported thereby, brackets engaged with the member and having opcnir formed therein and having restricted slots communicating therewith, and a head having a hook swivelly connected thereto, said head having trunnions carried thereby, the said trunnions having flat faces to permit their passing through the slots for pivotal engagement in the openings.
