The present invention relates to improvements in sewer construction, and has as one of its objects to render receiving basins and conduits leading therefrom to sewers less accessible to foreign material which is found to be a source of much annoyance and expense at the present time, because of the fact that basins require frequent cleaning and conduits leading from basins to sewers become so clogged that such conduits become unable to function, and in many'instances where efforts are made to clean out conduits leaks occur in the conduits as results of such efiorts and streets or sidewalks, or both, must be dug through to repair the basin and repair or renew the conduits.
vThe invention contemplates the provision of an improved basin-cover. This cover is such as to permit the ready passage of water from the street and gutter into the basin, but to minimize or prevent the deposit of paper, leaves, stones, sticks, rags, tin cans,
etc., many of these articles and numerous others being found daily in receiving basins by cleaners of sewer systems.

In the act of removing the cover, the cover 43 is first tilted upwardly about thetrunnions 45, the upright part 44 swinging into the undercut portion of the curb; and thereupon the cover is lifted upwardly, the trunnions 45 guiding the upright part outwardly. The reverse movements are carried out in replacing the cover.
g It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically of such frame in order to receive said trundescribed embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is 1; In a sewer construction, a basin extending partly below the street and partly below the sidewalk and curb, said curb having an undercut portion, a frame flush with the roadway above the basin and having a supporting ledge and slots near the curb line, said slots opening through the upper edge of said frame and through the inner walls thereof and being wider at the upper portions than at the lower portions, said slots further sloping downwardly toward the curb line, and a perforated cover consisting of substantially horizontal and integral upright portions, the horizontal portion adapted to rest on the ledge in the frame flush with the roadway, the upright portion adapted to extend flush within the curb and'to move into the undercut portion of the curb wheninserting and removing the cover, said horizontal portion of the cover having trunnions adapted to enter said slots and to guide the cover inwardly of the curb in the act of inserting the same and correspondingly to shift the cover outwardly in the act of lifting the cover,
