This invention relates generally to novelty devices and has more particular reference to autograph albums,-such as pupils generally use upon graduation, and memory books.
The invention has for an object the provision of an autograph album of simple, durable. construction, having certain desirable features applied thereto which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
Autograph albums are in later years referred to to bring back old memories. This invention consists in providing an autograph album with a picture of the owner which will add greatly to the treasured value thereof.
. The cover of the autograph album is provided with an opening, preferably covered by transparent material and adapted to frame a picture of the owner. The said opening may be only on the surface of the cover or may extend entirely through the cover, arrangements being made to display several pictures, and a cover may also be provided for the said 2 opening.
For further comprehension of the invention and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an autograph album constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view, taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, showing the top cover only.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of Fig. 1 but illustrating a modification of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of an autograph album constructed according to a modification of V the invention.
pages 11 and bottom cover 12. The top cover 1O has covering material 13 thereon, which is cutout at the center as at 14. A picture frame border 15 may be printed on the coverture 16 together. with a piece of transparent ing material 13 around the cutout 14. A picv material 17 is forced into the opening 14 and is slightly larger than the opening so as tov remain therein.
The modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 3 discloses two cuts 18 extending from opening 14 at the top thereof, and in inclined positions. This produces a flap 19 which may be lifted for the insertion or removal of picture 16 and material 17.
Figs. 4 and 5 disclose a cover 10 with champed sides 10, and provided with covering material 13. A central opening 20 with champed sides 21 extends from the top to the bottom of the cover. A recess 22 forming a shoulder 23 communicates with. the opening 20. Transparent material 24, a picture 25, and a backer 26 engage in the recess. Pins 27 are slidably arranged in the cover 10 and are movable to engage in apertures in the backer 26 by means of extensions 28 therefrom projecting through slots 29. The pins 27 may be moved free from the backer 26 and then the backer and picture may be slipped from the recess.
Fig. 6 discloses a cover 10 provided with a central opening 30, rollers 31 and 32, and a strip of pictures 33 on the rollers. Shafts 34 are provided for manually turning the rollers so as to Wind the pictures on one roller or on the other. The pictures on the strip may be a plurality of poses of the owner of the album. Figs. 7 and 8 disclose a top cover 10 provided with a picture opening 35. A cover 36 extends over the opening and this cover has an arm; 37 slidably arranged in a groove 38. A spring 39 is housed in the groove, acting against the rear of thegroove and the arm 37 normally urging the arm to the front of the groove so that the cover 36 extends over opening 35. A picture within the opening may be viewed by manually pushing the cover to slide from over the opening against the action of spring 39.
\Vhile I have described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may parts Without departing from: the spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
While I have described the invention to be applied on a. cover for albums it is to be understood that I reserve the privilege of using the same also on covers of all types of books.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: p
1. In combination with the top cover oi. an autograph album, said top cover having an opening exposing a picture, a cover extending over the opening an arm projecting from the latter cover and slidably arranged in a groove in the first mentioned cover, and means for normally urging the arm to the front of the groove so that the second mentioned cover extends over the said opening.
2. In combination with the top cover of an autograph album, said top cover havmg an opening exposing a picture a cover extendmg over the opening an arm projecting from the latter cover and slldably arranged 1n a groove in thefirst mentioned cover, and a ISAAC RAUSHAR.
