This invention relates to pump attach- 'ments for securing air pressure pumps to barrels, tanks, drums, casks and the like.
Liquids, particularly fuel oil is usually merchandised in barrels, drums or the like opening 4 when the pump is attached and 1t may be fastened to the pipe 12 which extends down to the bottom of .the barrel or cask so that'oil 'may be forced up through it into the flexible hose lat having a valved from the wholesaler to the dealer. The faucet 'on its end. The lower end of the dealer dispenses the liquid in smaller quantities to the customer. The casks or drums are usually air tight so if air pressure is placed on the liquid and a pipe 1s 1l1I1 1I1l10 the barrel or drum, the air ressure w1ll force 'theliquid through the pipe where its flow 'can be controlled by a valve, cook or faucet. I have provided an attachment which may be applie to and easily removed from commercial barrels or drums so that the liquid may be forced out by air pressure. Therefore, when a barrel or drum of oil or other liquid is received by the dealer, my invention can be applied for the purpose of dispensing the liquid and when the barrel is empty, the attachment may be removed and applied to another full barrel or cask.
The novelty of the invention will be understood by reference to the following'description in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 2 is a sectional view' through the plug, the pipe for passing out the liquid and the air discharge pipe for supplying air from the-pump so that the pump can force the air into the barrel or cask.
Referring, now, to the drawings by numerals of reference, 1 designates the barrel or cask having a relatively large hole-or opening 2 which may be closed by the plug 3. 4 is-a similar opening which may be closed by a suitable plug not shown. This is all old construction and in itself constitutes no part of-my invention.
' My invention is illustrated as comprising a pump cylinder 5 which with the piston 6 constitutes an air.compressor for forcing air into the cask or barrel. The piston 6 may be provided with a valve 7 which opens on the up-stroke and which closes on the down-stroke of the piston. The upper end of the cylinder 5 ma be 0 en to admit air into the cylinder. ecure to the bottom of the cylinder 5 is a nipple 8 to which is fastened a flexible conduit 9, in turn fastened to the nipple 10 of the air discharge pipe 11 which passes into the barrel or cask below the plug 13. The plug 13 closes the others. The flexible conduit 9 is provided with an outwardly opening check valve 17 which is lifted off its seat for each downstroke of the piston 6 and which seats upon each up-stroke of the piston 6. The piston 6 is operated through the medium of a piston rod 18 and a handle 19.
- The air compressor, consisting of the cylinder and piston, is removably secured to the barrel or cask or drum by two yielding clamps 20 and 21 having drum-engaging hooked ends 22 and 23. These clamps are yieldingly held together by a contracting coil spring 24. One of the clamps (20) is fast to the cylinder 5, therefore, when the hooked ends of the clamps 20 and-21 are slipped over the ends of the barrel or other receptacle, the compressor will be securely fastened to it. When the plug 13 is screwed in the hole 4 with the plug 3 in place and valve of the faucet l5 closed, the operator can force air on to the li uid by manipulat ing the piston. Since su cient pressure has been generated upon the liquid, the valve 25 of the faucet 15 can be unseated so that the liquid will be forced out of the faucet in a well understood manner. When the receptacle is empty, the plug 13 can be unscrewed so that the pipe 12 can be taken out and the two clamps 20 and 21 can be detached from the receptacle ready to be applied to the next receptacle containing liquid. When it is desired to screw and unscrew the plu 13, the flexible conduit 9 can be detached 0m the nipple l0 and since the plug is in place, the end of the flexible conduit 9 can be slipped back over the nipple 10.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that I have provided an attachment easily attached to and removed from different kinds of barrels or drums so that the liquid may be dispensed under pressure. Since the device is capable of being applied to different kinds of containers, I shall refer in the claims to the container as a receptacle to include any kind of container whether a barrel, drum or any equivalent structure.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is 1. A device of the class described comprising a pump, means for removably securing the pump to a drum-like receptacle, a discharge pipe, a bushing for securin the pipe to the receptacle so that one end 0 the pipe extends outside the receptacle,a curved pipe carried by the discharge pipe having its inlet above the bushing and its outlet discharging through the wall of the discharge pipe below the bushing so that the curved pipe will discharge within the receptacle, and a conduit leading from the pump to the curved pipe.
2. A device of the class described comprising a receptacle, a pump, two yieldingly alining clamps for securing the pump to the receptacle, a valved liquid receiving and discharge pipe, a bushing for connecting said pipe to the receptacle, a pipe carried by the discharge pipe having its inlet communicatbeing submergible in the liquid and the other end having a discharge orifice, a pump, removable receptacle engaging clamp connected to the pump for securing the pump to the outside of a receptacle, a curved pipe carried Iby the first named pi e having its inlet outside the first named PIPE above the bushing and its outlet dischar ing outside the first named pipe below the ushing and a conduit connecting the inlet of the curved pipe with the outlet of the pump.
