My invention relates to a process for manufacturing the clip, or, attaching piece, for
brake rods for automobiles and similar parts and an object of my improvementis to 6 cheapen the production and to improve the quality'of such articles.
In the accompanying drawing Figure '1 is a perspective View of a portion of a strip of metal from which the blanks to are cut, from which blanks the parts of the finished clips are to be made.'
Figure 2 is a plan view of a portion of the strip of Figure 1, the lines on which the finished parts are'to be formed being indicated by broken lines.
Figure '3 is a perspective view of the blank as it is cut from the strip of Figure l.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the two entirely similar parts out or which the clip is formed.
Figure 5 is an elevation showing the way the parts of the clip are placed together.

In the processof my invention 1 first form a strip 2 of metal, as shown in Figure 1, the side edges of which are parallel, which strip is fiat for perhaps a third of its width inward from its edges, these flat portions being in the same plane and of the same thickness, as indicated at 2. ll he strip is then bent slantingly upward between the portions 2 and continued in a flat portion 2 which is of a greater thickness than the portion 2 and is in a plane a short distance above the plane of the part 2".

' The blank, as above described, is placed in a die which forms it as indicated by broken lines in Figure 2, at the left of said figure, and divides it into equal portions by a transverse cut in the line 6-4), and forms the head 2, with a central aperture 2 therein and also forms a longitudinal groove 2 across the upper face of the part 2, as indicated by broken lines in Figure 2 and in full lines in one of the parts of said blank, as shown in Figure 4. The two parts formed from a single blank, as above described, are then placed together, as illustrated in Figure 5, with the upper surfaces of the raised portions, as shown in F igures l and 3, bearing against each other. These surfaces are then united by welding, forming the finished article shown in Figure 6, which, however, may be further shaped, if required, by turning the united portions into a cylindrical form, as indicated by the broken lines 5 in Figure 6 and the aperture l Ipay be bored therein to receive the brake ro( What ll claim is:
1. In a process of forming articles of the kind described, providing a strip of metal with flat lateral portions in the same plane and a raised intermediate portion, dividing said strip by transverse cuts into blanks of the required width, dividing said blanks into two like parts by a central transverse cut, placing the bentup surfaces of said parts into engagement and welding them together.
2. In a process of forming articles of the kind described, providing a strip of metal with flat lateral portions in the same plane, a raised intermediate portion of greater thickness than said lateral portions, dividing said strip by transverse cuts into blanks of the re quired width, dividing said blanks into two like parts by a central transverse cut. placing the bentup surfaces of said parts into ongagement and welding them together.
3. In a process of forming articles of the kind described, providinga strip of metal with flat lateral portions in the same plane and a raised intermediate portion, dividing each strip by transverse cuts into blanks of the required width, shaping said blanks in suitable die, dividing the same by a central transverse cut, placing the bent up surfaces of said parts into engagement and welding them together.
