rlhis invention relates to window latching devices, and more particularly to devices ot this character which are adapted to latch a met-al window sash to another sash, or to the stationary frame in which they areV mounted.
Among the objects of the invention is the incorporation ot` a fastening means in a metallic window construction, with minimum mutilation or alteration ot the adjacent frame and sash members which are to be secured together.
Another object of the invention to provid a iasening means ot this character which is almost wholly concealed when the sash is latched, and which permits the tramo and sash members which are to be secured together to be in close proximity to each other.
Further objects of the invention are ease of application, saving ot expense, and simplicity ot construction and operation ol tastening means of' this character.
Other objects and features of nove ty will be apparent as the following description Y proceeds, as taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention by Way oi example, and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of a window iframe showing my improved latcl1 ing device applied thereto;
Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken along' the line 2 2 ot Fig. 1; and
Figure 3 is a vertical cross section taken along the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the invention is illust-rated in connection With a window having a stationary Aframe indicated generally at 10, which is provided with a horizontal liange 11 adapted to receive the movable frame or sash indicated generally at 12.
As shown in Fig. 3 the movable trame 12 comprises an ngle having a leg 14 adapted to overlie the flange 11 and lie parallel thereto, and a vertical leg 15 adapted to abut against the member 10. The leg 12 is eX- tended and bent down so as to overlie the member 10.
Secured to the flange 14 by a pivot rivet 20 is a latching lever 21. This lever is essentially Hat, and adapted to lie between the leg 14 and the flange 11 and provided with a cam portion 22 adapted to move behind a 1928. Serial No. 293,554.

It will be obvious that when the member 21 is in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 the window is unlatched and the movable frame 12 may be opened or closed as desired. It the window is to remain open the member 21 may be moved about its pivot to t-he position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 and also Figs. 1 and 3, in which case it lies snugly under the ilange 141 and the thumb piece 2li is its only projection. Then the window is to be closed the member 21 is moved to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 and the member 12 is urged against the frame member 10. A slight lateral pressure on the thumb piece 2a' will cause the cam 22 to ride behind the lug 23 to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2. This will securely latch the Window in the closed position and the thumb piece 21 will be the only projection from the window in the latched position, as the member 21 lies snugly between the flange 14( and the flange 11.
TWhile the invention has been described in great detail for one embodiment thereof, the broad idea is not limited to these details, but includes suoli embodiments as como within the scope of the sub-joined claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. In a window, the combination of a metal frame member and a metal sash member adapted in closed position to lie parallel and slightly spaced from each other, lug struck up from the metal of said :trame member, and a flat lever pivoted to said sash member in position to lie between said members in closed position having a portion adapted to move about the pivot and ride behind the lug to secure the two membersl together.
2. In a window, the combination otl a metal trame member and a metal sash member adapted in closed position to lie parallel and slightly spaced from each other, a lug struck up from the metal or" said trame member,
Yand a flat lever pivoted to said sash member in position to lie between said members in closed position having a portion adapted to llO move about the pivot and'ride behind the lug to secure vthe two members together, said lever being housed entirely between said members when in looked position, with tbe exception of :L single handle portion which projects therefrom for operating the device.
3. In combination with a metal Window frame mounted for opening and closing movement with respect to :L stationary frame, a lug struck up from the metal of one of said frames, and a flat member pivot-ed to the other of said frames and adapted to lie therebetween when in closed position and having; a portion adapted to ride behind said lug when the flat member swings about its pivot to secure the two frames together in closed position, the end of said Hat member remete from the pivot being bent up laterally to form a thumb piece.
