Description

' F. B. PERKINS & w. aromas.
PICTURE-HOLDER.
Paten tecl Nov. 30,1875.
WITJV'ESSES I By v 6 a Mr I Attorney 5 UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE;
' FRANCIS B. PERKINS AND WALTER S. DODDS, OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PICTURE-HOLBERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 170,585, dated November 30,1875; application filed October 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANCIS B. PERKINS and WALTER S. DODDS, of Elgin, in the county of Kane and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photograph-Cabinets; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construct-ion and arrangement of a cabinet for holding and exhibiting photographs, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of our photograph-cabinet. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detached view of a part thereof.
A represents an ornamental back, of any suitable form and size, and provided on the front with a box or case, B, having an ornamental cover or front, 0, hinged at its lower edge. To the rear sideof the back A is hinged a brace, D, which supports the cabinet in an inclined position, as shown. In the bottom of the box or case B is placed a triangular block or bar, G, the top side of which extends from the back downwardand forward, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The ordinary leaves E for containing the photographs are attached to this inclined side by means of cloth or flexible hinges a a. The leaves being thus hinged to an incline will fall down and rest upon the front 0 when the same is thrown down, as seen in Fig. 2, and the leaves will not get broken.
This photograph-cabinet may be used on a center-table, or be suspended as a bracket, in which latter case the front 0 is to be supported by cords or chains;. or two cabinets may be hinged together at the top and support each other by being spread apart and rest on their lower ends.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a photograph or other picture'receptaole, the triangular block or bar E, having the leaves G attached to the inclined top thereof by means of flexible hinges a, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the back A, box B, front 0, triangular block E, flexible hinges a, and leaves G, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing, we have hereunto set our hands.
FRANCIS B. PERKINS. WALTER S. DODDS. Witnesses:
