In addition to the practica]. advantages 0f associating an electric lamp With n telephone, f01 greater convenience 0f h&ving a light near by t0 aid in looking 11p numbers in the telephone book, makingnotes 0f telephone conversations, ete., the combination meets a general demand for a living room, library 01 hall telephone, immediately ab hand but artistically concealed from view, whennot in use.

In addition t0 the broad idea 0f cornbining a lamp and teleph0ne, the present invention enibraces various structuml featuresby means of Which this combination may be carried into practical and presentable effect.

A preferred form, embodying n1y invention, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a view in side elevation, showing thedoor partly opened;

Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents an ornamental vase, jar, cabinet 01 the like, suit'able for serving a.s a base f01 a lamp, preferably an electric lamp, provided wit-h a shade 2.

As shown', a rod 4, is rotatably mounted in suitable terminalbearings 5 und 6, and

as arranged, itsturning. axis coincides with the turmng ax1s 0f the door,wluch latter is carried bythe 10d und perfor1ns no useful function other than t0 c10se the opening throngh which access is had to the interior of the base.

Secured to and supported by the 10d 4, near its lower end, so as to move in. and 0ut 0f the base, as the door is closed and opened, there is a, shelf 7, designed and intended to Serve as a support for a telephone 8.

Thus constructed, the opening of the door, Which is also secured to the shelf, withdraws the telephone from the lamp base and presents it, com'reniently accessible for use.

In order to safely house and protect the electric light wireS -9, which must pass either inside or outside of the' lamp base to the lamp bulbs above the same, I make the hinge rod 4, tubular, as indicated a1: 10, to carry such wires which, on passing throngh the tube, aie bronght 0ut under the base and termi1iate in the usual plug for attachment to a larnp or wall socket (not shown) T0 provide the necessary length of telephone cable 11, when the phone is being window shade and having a ratchet 15 of the type employed in a shade-roller, to

check the abtion of the spring, when desired.

A short guide tube 16 in the floor 14 of the lamp base, facilitates the Winding und unwinding of the telephone cable from the pulley 13, and contact rings 17, und brushes 18, are empl0yed t0 enab1e the wires forming this cable to be terminated .and secured to the pulley. Connecting leads 19, 19, fr01n the brushes 18, 18, run to the telephone service line.

The Operation, manipulation and many advantages of my invention Will be apparent from the foregoing description.

Having, therefore, described my invention, I claim:

1. A combined lamp table and telephone cabinet, comprising a top, bottom and side Walls, a lmnp mounted 0n the t0p a tubular pivotal member journalecl in the side Walls, a C1001 supported by said tubular pivotal member, and a shelfwithin the cabinet C011- nectecl with said c100r and supported by said tubular member, ehe top and bottom 0f the cabinet having openings registering with the open ends 0f the tubular pivotal member, the said tubular member serving as a conduit for ehe electric wiring connection from the bottom of the cabinet t0 the lamp supported on ehe top thereof.

2. A combined lanup table and telephone cabinet, comprising a h0110W base affording a bottom Wall f01 the cabinet, side Walls rising from said base and having a door opening, and a top supported on said side wal1s, a tubular rod pivotally mounted in the base and top t0 one side 0f said door opening, a door fixed to and supported by said t-ubular rod, a shelf fixed t0 said d001' and tubular rod and extending into the cabinet when the door is in closed position, openings in the bottom and top' of the cabinet registering with the tubular rod, said tubular rod serving as a conduit for electric wiring from the bottom of the cabinet to a lamp supported 011 the top thereof, a spring winding dru1n mounted and conqealed Within the h0110w base, electric wiring woun l upon said drum and connected with atelephone supported upon said shelf, whereby the shelf and the telephone supported thereon am swung out of the ca binet when th e 01001 is opened and returned t0 the cabinet when the door is closed.
