Description

Jam 22, wv:
E. M. PETERSON DISPLAY DEVICE Filed NOV. 22, 1926 @y @QM/M w Patented Jan. 122, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDITH IMI. PETERSON, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA ASSIGNOR TO LAURA E. FISHER,
Y OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. v
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application led November 22, 1926. Serial No. 149,878.
rlhe invention relates to a display device l .Y particularly adapted for use on milk bottles and the like.
An object of the invention is the production of an advertising or display device so formed that it can be applied to a milk bottle quickly and without the necessity of rearranging any of the parts.
Another object of the invention is the pro- 1o vision of a display device adapted to be optionally hung on the neck of a bottle, or made into an easel-supported display stand.
Other objects of the invention will be set forth in the following description of the -prel5 ferred embodiment of the invention which is illustrated in the drawings forming vpart of l the specilication. It is understood that ll do not limit myself to the showing made by the said description and drawings as ll may adopt variations of my preferred embodiment within the scope of the invention as set forth in the Claim. Y
Referring to the drawings: Figure l is a plan view of the fiat backlcomprising my display device as it appears before using. The heavy and the dotted lines indicate creases or fold lines on which portions of the sheet maybe folded.
Figure 2 is a perspective view, showing the display device applied to a milk bottle.
Figure -3 is a perspective view showing the back of my devicewhen it is used as a display stand.
Broadly, my invention comprises a generally quadrilateral sheet ofmaterial, such as paper board, having a curved slit in one end to optionally form a hanger or an easel supf port. Alined creases are preferably proto vided adjacent the ends of the cut to facilitate the vfolding or portions of the sheet.
lln detail, my invention comprises a generally quadrilateral sheet of` fibrous material,
preferably paper board, with a U-shaped slit i a5 2 in one end thereof,` the ends 3 and 4 of the slit being directed toward the opposite end of the sheet. '.lhe two legs of the U-shaped slit are substantially parallel with the lateral edges 5 and 6 of the sheet, and extending full lines indicate cuts.4
outwardly from the ends 3 and 4 of the slit to the adjacent lateral edge of thel sheet are the alined creases 8 and 9. These creases prol vide a hinge which facilitates the movement of the hanger 7 formed by the partially severed portion lying outsi'de of the U-shaped 55 slit. rfhe width of the yoke-like portion of the hanger is determined by the size of the bottle or similar device on which it is to be placed.
A large-necked bottle would of course require a wider hanger than a narrow-necked bottle. The uncreased areall lying on the inside of the slit 2 remains coplanar with the body 12 of the sheet atall times and thus increases the surface available for advertising and display matter.
Frequently a Creamery or milkman wishes to make some announcement to a customer but in the past has experienced considerable dif# liculty in doing so, as known methods were so troublesome and required so much time to 7@ apply that it became Jtoo costly. rlhe device A of my invention is intended to overcome this trouble by providing a display card havin an integral hanger which is readily slippe over the neck of a bottle. Accidental displacement of my device is almost impossible, as the hanger fits well down on the neck of the bottle. By the use of my .display device, announcements or other messages can be delivered with the milk and due to its position on the bottle, cannot be overlooked by the customer.
My display device may be converted into an easel-supported stand for use in stores by folding the hanger or support 7 backwardly until it rests against the body l2 of the sheet. rl`hen by flexing the hanger outwardly, its opposite edges may be caught under the tongues lll formed in the bottom of the body x l2 of the sheet. In this manner, an easel support is provided which will maintain the device in an upright position. Itis also my intention to have attractive representations and verses'displayed on the device so that it may serve as a toy to amuse children after being 05 removed from the milk bottle.
l claim:
A display device comprising a sheet having e U-shape slit in one end thereof, the ends of the slit directed toward the opposite end of the sheet, the portion of the sheet Within the slit constituting a display area and the por- 5 tion without theslit constituting a hanger with which the sheet maybe suspended, and tongues formed in said opposite end of the :medew sheet and beneath which the edges of the hanger may be optionally Caught to form an easel leg for the sheet.
In testmnoy whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
