The present invention is directed to improvements inautomatic vacuum controlled valves.
The primary objectof theinvention is to provide a valve of this character which is placed in a line between a liquid containing reservoir or tank and the vacuum pump the constructionbeing such that should the tank or reservoir become empty the valve will automatically close to prevent air from the tank or reservoir from beingdrawn into the vacuum pump.

Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a casing having an inlet 2 and outletB, there being a valve seat 4 in said casing. Thisseat is provided with an annular groove 5 in which snapsthe wire ring 6 carried by the upper end of the cylindrical screen 7, the lower end of which fits around an upstanding flange 8 carried upon the bottom of the casing in order to stabilize the screen or strainer.

inflowing liquid will then raise the valve in order that the liquid can again be drawn by suction through the line.
Any moisture which may collect in the an nular chamber 28 formed between the rim 10 and cap12 will pass through the ducts 16 into the body of the valve 14 and from thence will discharge through the ducts 17 when the valve is seated. Under certain conditions it I may be necessary to balance the valve and in Figure 2 of the drawing 1* have illustrated means for so doing. To accomplish this the casing has threaded therein a plug 29 havinga socket 30 in which is located a coil spring 31, a plug 32 being threaded in the socket and adapted to regulate the tension of the spring 31 when desired. Upon the upper terminal of the spring rests a disk 33 which engages the lower end of the stem 34, the upper end of which is. secured to or rests against the V p bottom of the valve 14. A sheet metal cone 24 is provided and has the tension of which being regulated in the same manner as the springs 31' of the preferred form of the invention. It will thus be seen that the valve 14 will be resiliently bal anced should it be desired to do so.
Ilaving thus described the invention, I claim:
1. A valve of the class described comprising a casing, a guide sleeve carried by the casing, a valve seat in the casing, a hollow valve slidable in the sleeve, said valve having upper and lower ducts in its wall communicating with the interior thereof, a cap carried by the casing and providing a chamber, the upper ducts serving to discharge moisture from the chamber into the valve while the lower duct discharges the moisture therefrom into the casing.
