i Application filed August 5, 1927. Serial No. 210,972.
My invention relates to so-called French cord binders, or attachments for French cord binding machines. It has for its purposes, to provide a new, novel, and improved means of attaching leather or fabric binding, gummed or otherwise, to the edge of a shoe or other material, and particularly the type of binding known as Parco, to facilitate the holding, passing and control of the binding prior to the actual stitching process; to provide an attachment adjustable to various widths of binding; to provide a device which will attach the binding to an edge without shrinking, contracting or changing the dimensions of the material to which it is secured or the binding itself; to provide a new and improved presser means adaptableto function in combination with the binding'attachment; and to provide the various other advantages and results disclosed from the following specification.
I accomplish the objects of my invention as shown in the accompaying drawings in whichFigure 1 shows a side view of my assembled device in operating position as used with the foot of a sewing machine adaptable for French cord binding.
Figure 2 shows a diagonal top view of my attachment or binding guide disengaged from the sewing machine foot shown 1n F lgure 1. F lgure 3 shows a side View of my binchng gulde likewise disengaged from the sewing machine foot shown'in Figure l. F1gur'e 4 shows an enlargedsectlonal view of my attachment on the line XX in Figure 3. Figure 5 shows the adjustment blade. Figure 6 shows a front view of my attachment.
Referring again to Figure 1, A shows the foot bar of a sewing machine of the type adaptable for French cord binding. B shows the foot fixed to the lower end of the bar A. C shows the adjustment screw'by means of which the foot A is secured to the bar A. D shows the needle bar. F. shows the needle positioned. in the lower end of the parts I and J L shows the set screw ,fit various widths of bindings.
by which the adjusting member K- is locked in position between the parts I and J. M shows the binding in position for feeding into my device. j I
Referring again to Figure 4, the sides I and J are shown to be U-shaped, forming an opening, through which in operation the binding passes. Referring again to- Figure 5, K shows the slot (in the adjusting member K) adaptable to fit about the screw L in adjusting the length of the opening N to The mem ber K on its side K is made to extend from the top to the bottom of the opening N to better guide the binding as it passes through the opening N. The end K acts as a handle for convenience in making the adjustments. a 7
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the various views.
In operation the end of thebinding it after passing through the opening N is positioned at the starting point ,on the material to be bound beneath the needle E. The
normal pull of the machine feed then draws claim as new and desire to secure by'Letters Patent lea:
