HOSIERY CARTON.

This invention relates to containers or cartons, particularly adapted for the purpose of holding, in folded relationship therein, ar-- ticles of wearing apparelsuoh as hosiery.

An object of this invention is to provide a hosiery carton having a bottom portion and flap elements foldably and laterally extending therefrom, one of the flap elements being formed to receive in folded relationship the article of wearing apparel, the flap elements being provided with suitable means for firmly interlockin the top flap elements together.

Other ob ects of this invention will appear from the following detailed description of lo the device and as disclosed in the two sheets of drawings herewith made a g plication.

As one modification of this invention, it is preferred to constrnct a hosiery carton, according to the disclosure in Figure 4, wherein numeral 1 designates a bottom fportion of the carton which may be made 0 any suitable material such as cardboard, having lat.- erally extending therefrom an intermediate flap element 2 for receiving an article of wearing apparel similar to hosiery in open relationship thereon; an. oppositely extending flap member 3, of similar surface area 1s adapted to cooperate with flap 2 when in fold ed relationship. A top flap member 4 1s adapted to extend from the bottom element 1 approximately at right angles to the flaps 2 and 3 and cooperating flap member 5, of similar surface area, Within flap 4, is adapted part of this apto have positioned therein a suitably formed slot 6 for receiving a cooperating tab element 7 extending from the top flap 4, thereby providing means for firmly interlocking the flap members together when the different elements of the hosiery carton have been brought into folded and assembled relationship. 7

As clearly disclosed in Figure 2, the intermediate flap member 2, when in assembled position, lies between the bottom 1 and the top elements 4 and 5 of the carton, and is provided with an elongated slot 8 and a grooved portion 9 for the purpose of receiving an article of wearing apparel such as hosiery, thearticle being adapted to extend through the slot 8, over the roove 9, until it has been brought into satis actory folded relationship with the intermediate flap 2. In order to assure an easy and correct folding of the different flap elements, guide lines 10 are formed in the material of the carton in sucha manner thatside portions 11 of suitable dimensions will be formed when the different elements are brought into folded relationship.

-Figure 8 illustrates another modification of this invention wherein numeral 12 designates a bottom member of a wearing apparel carton having extending therefrom an intermediate fiap portion 13 and an oppositely eX- tending flap element 14 for cooperating therewithand forming the top flap of the carton. Auxiliary flap elements 15 and 16, extending at right angles to flaps 13 and 14 from the bottom member 12 are adapted to cooperate with different elements of the carton in such a manner as to form .a firmly closed carton when the different members are brought into folded relationship. The inter? mediate flap 13 is preferably formed having grooves 17 and 18 for receiving in folded relationship thereon an article of wearing apparel such as hosiery. Suitably formed slotted portions 19 and 20 are made in the flap 13 for the purpose of receiving cooperating tab elements 21 and 22 in the flap portion 14 when the different members of the carton are foldedtogether. In order to establish the predetermined dimensions of the side portions 23, guide lines 24 are formed in the material of the carton which function to make it easy and positive for folding the'difi'erent flap members into interlocked and assembled relationship.

This invention provides acarton particularly adapted for holding articles of Wearing apparel such as hosiery and is formed primarily from a single piece of suitable material such as cardboard having a bottom portion and side end member and intermediate flap elements, foldably extending therefrom,

a tab and slotted portion in the upper flap elements, being provided for firmly interlocking the different members together, the great advantage in this invention being a construction which allows of the intermediate flap being used for holding the article of wearing apparel, the bottom and upper portions of the carton, when in assembled relationship, completely covering and protecting the article, such as hosiery.

Substitutions and alterations'may be made in the above disclosure within the scope of 'the appended claim without affecting the merits of this invention.

What I claim is A hosiery carton comprising a bottom portion, end sections and side sections, an upper flap element extending from a side section, a tab member projecting therefrom, a plurality of intermediate flap portions foldably connected to the end and side sections, one of the intermediate flap elements having a slot for receiving the tab, another intermediate flap element being formed approximately of the same size as the upper flap and having a slot therein for receiving the hosiery in folded relationship thereon.
