Description

F. W. FREUND. Detachable Pistol-Grip for Fire-Arms.
Patented Oct'. 19,1875.

FRANK wrREUND, OF CHEYENNE, WYOMING TERRITORY.
IMPROVEMENT IN DETACHA'BLE PISTOL-GRIPS FOR FIRE-ARMS.
Specification forming'part of Letters Patent No. 168.834, dated October 19, 1875 application filed March 19, 1875.
CASE A.
To all whom it may concern:
B'eit known that I, FRANK W. FREUND, of
Cheyenne, countv ot' Laramie and Territory a full, clear, and exact description thereof,
. reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification,
in which-- Figure 1 is .a side elevation, and Fig. 2 an inverted plan view, showing-my pistol-grip. Fig. 3 is a sectional view'ot' my pistol-grip applied to the trigger-plate of an ordinary gun. Fig. 4 shows my pistolgrip, a trigger-guard, and a trigger-plate made in onepiece.
, My invention consists in a grip for guns made separate from the stock and adapted to be attached'thereto.
Figs. 1 and-2 show my improved pistolgrip ready to be attached to an ordinary gun not having a grip. It is made of any suit able, material, prefen'ably of iron,-and can be cast or made in a single piece, though, for con- Venience of finishing, I may construct the parts: A and B ot separatepieces and afterward" "unite them. It may also be made'of horn,
-. ivory, or wood, or partly of metal'with either of these materials, or may percha. pistol-grip which is grasped by the handof the sportsman while taking aim' and during the act of firing. I
One advantage of making the part A and butt B separately is, that each piece can be cut out of sheet metal and formed in adie, after which they tating the manufacture of the-pistol-grip The butt B is made to extend upward a sufficient distance above be cast of guttaextension of the pistol-grip, with relation to the part of the gun to which it is to be at making the grip light, if made out of metal,
The part A is that portion of my may be united, thus greatly facili- V its connection with 1 the part A to afford such a pitch or downward n in:
a u a, Fig. 3, thus so as notto add materially to the weight of I the gun to which it may be applied.
In Fig. 3 I have shown my pistol-grip ap .plied to the trigger-plate U of an ordinary gun in rear of the triggerguard c. To efiect this, a notch, as at d, is, in this instance, out All the trigger-plate, so as to receive therein a portion of the upper part of the butt B of 'my grip. as shown, so that when the pistolgrip- .llS
- placed in position against the trigger-plate, as
indicated in-Fig. 3,.it will be securely held in place by the screw e,'as represented.
In Fig. 4 the pistol-grip A B, trigger-guard 0, and trigger-plate G are wrought out of one piece of metal. This plan admits of the grip being attached to-and removed from the steel; without marring it, it simply being necessary to screw in or out the screw or screws which 1 fasten the-trigger-plate in position upon the stock.
It will thus be seen thatI have made a pistol-grip in the form or likeness of the lowerpart of the stock of a pistol, and which is adapted for attachment-to the stock of a gun, (and readily detachable.therefrom, if desired) andwhich can be conveniently grasped by thehand of the sportsman when taking aim and during the-actotf'liring.
Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings illustrate my grip for ready attachmentto Sharps rifles,-
or 'to any, machine-made stock where screwholes are all placed alike. In both of these figures, the screw to, which has held the trigger-platejin position, is'taken out and screwed into the' grip until needed again. In place of the screw a removed, a screw, 1), is inserted,
having ahead to hold down the trigger-plate,-
and which headhas a hole and thread .to hold ascrew, c, which thereby holds the grip to the stock, the butt B beingafterward screwed .011 and covering-the hole.- The screw .b has a transverse-hole, m, through its head, into which a wire or-awl may be inserted to screw Figs.- 7, 8, 9 ,fand 10 are modifications qt my pistol-grip.
