a longitudinally extending slot or guideway 24 through which a set screw 25 may pass for threaded engagement with the inner end of the tube section 22 as clearly illustrated in Figure 2. Thisslot 24 and set screw 25 will allow for longitudinal adjustment of tpeY tu e swing beam without allowing for the sections 21 and 22 becoming separated. The
slot 24 and set 'screw 25 also prevents rotaryv movement v`of the sections 21 and 22one within the other, and which relativev rotary movement of the sections would be undesirable as v:will be later explained. Provided in the outer end of the tube lsections 21, are'aligned screw threaded bores 26 the axis of which extends in parallel relation'with the axis of thealigned apertures 23, and the purpose of 'which screw threaded bores will be subsey parallelwith the'axis of the stud 18.. A vsuitable plug or closure cap 28 may be employed forclosing the outer endofthe tube section 22. Referring now to the stand arm 12, the
same embodies a threaded shank portion 30 y which is intended to be threaded into the aligned'threadedjbores 27 of the tube section 22, and from the upper end of which shank portion, forked arms 31 extend. upwardly for hinged connection with the holder proper C. `It will be seen that upon rotation of the stand arm, that the same will, through its y threaded'connection withthe tube section 22,
be raised and lowered for vertical adjustment of the'holde'r proper, and that upon proper vso nut, 32k which is threaded upon the shank beneath the tube section,-may be turned into binding engagement with the tube section for preventing further vrotation of the stand arm. It may here be mentioned that by so prevent- Ving relative rotation of the tube sections, as .by means of theslot 24` and set screw 25, that the stand arms 12 will'be retained in kavertical upright position forV proper supporting of the holder proper C. Referring now to the holder proper C, the same embodies a substantially lrectangular shaped rest plate 35 which may be formed either of wood or sheet metal, and from the central lower portion yof which a thumb'engaging lip v36 extends. Secured longitudinally at the rear face of the rest plate, and4 centrally thereof, is an attaching plate 37 having rearwardly extending spaced apart ears 3S-and 39 provided respectively at the upperV and lowerjends of the vplate.` These ears j38 and 39 are preferably Vformed by bending up the end portions of the attaching plates. Pivotally mounted intermediateits ends between the upperspacedV lower arm portion 43 which is of U-shape in cross section, extending Vdownwardly from the hinge pin in diverging relation to the rest plate. i Secured in the upper end of the tubular arm portion`42,'is`ajclamp vrar1n144 which extends forwardly through'a notchorr recess 45 provided in the upper marginal edge of the rest plate, and having providedat its forward end a depending hook portion '46 which Yoverlies the upper portion oftheface ofthe restv plate 35, A spring 47 coiled about the hinge pin l40,'has one freeend thereof bearing against lthe vrea-r face' `oftherest plate, and its op'pe'site freeendfextending up` lw'vardly in the tubular arm' portion 42 for normally urging the arm 42 rearwardly and the hook portion 46 toward-the frontface ofthe rest plate. VPivotally mounted intermediate its ends between the lower spaced'fears 39 as by a suitable hinge pin 48', and extending in alignmentwith the, clamping ylever 41, is a re-r leasing leverV 50 having-its'upper arm portion 51 engaging the inner side of thelower arm portion 43 ofthe clamping lever 41, and having its'vlower arm 'portion 52 which extends in downwardly diverging relation to the rest plate, terminating at a point directly to ther rear ofthelip o'offth'e rest structure. By so 'having the lower arm43 of the clamping lever 41, ofi U-shape iny cross section, the same forms a the upper end of the arm portion 51.
The upper ends ofthe forked arms 31 are provided withl oppositely extending pintles l l h i 54 which are mounted in friction hinge Aclips vertical adjustment of the holder, the wing 55 secured to the rear face of the rest plates to each side of the attaching` plate/37. lThese hinge clips 55 are preferably made of'spring material so thatfsuificient` friction will Vbe sgi.

In positioning la notebook or f copysheet upon the holder 'proper, the'operator 'first places the thumb against the lip andgrasps f the lower end thereof vfor locking the ,stand with his forefinger, the lower fiatv portion 60 of the releasing lever 50. By drawing his foreinger forwardly, the upper arml section 51 swings outwardly about the hinge pin 48, forcing the arm section 43 rearwardly and the upper arm portion 42 forwardly thus causing the clamping arm 42 tov move for# wardly and carry the depending hook portion 46 out of engagement with the frontfa'ce of the rest` plate. During this forward swinging of the clamp arm44, the notch 45 serves as a guide for preventing any rlateral movement of the arm. After positioning' the upper end of a notebook or copysheet beneath the hook portion 46, the lever 50 may be released and through actionV ofthe spring 47, the lever 41 will assume its normal position and draw the hook 46 into vclamping engagement'with'the article to be held upon the rest plate.
Concerning the various positions the holder proper may assume withl respect to the support A, the same may be swung toward and' away fromthe support in a horizontal plane about the stud 18, may be shifted toward and away from the support by reason of the telescopic tube sections 21 and 22, may be adjusted vertically'by means of the'stand arm 12, andy may be tilted at various angles by means of the hinge means 54 and 55.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that an 'extremely novel` and efficient copy holder has been provided embodying features wherein the holder proper may i kbe adjustablydisposed in a position to permit of copies held thereby to be readily observed without straining of ones eyes while tran- I scribing the copy supported in the holder.
Changes in detail may be made to the form of invention herein shown and described, without'departing Vfrom the spirit of the inventionor the scope of the following claim.
I claim: ,A
1. A copy holder comprising in combination, a swing beam lembodying horizontally disposed inner and outer telescoping sections, said sections eachV being provided adjacent their outer ends with vertically aligning threadedbores of like diameter, a stand arm embodying a threaded shank portion'for threaded engagement in either of tlie'aligny ing bores, vand a holder proper carried by the upper endV of the stand arm for rotation` therewith uponturning of the threaded shank portion into either of said bores.
2. In a holder, the combination of a rest plate, aclampingv lever pivotallyy supported upon the rear side of the rest plate and em bodying a clamp armrhaving a hook portion` the'clamp lever l'for movement of the hook portion away from said rest plate.
3. The combination with a copy holder t i comprising a supporting structure embodying a .vertically disposed stand arm,of a rest plate hingedly connected intermediate its endsto the upper end of'said stand ar1n,'a clamping lever pivotally mounted intermediate its ends l Vupon the rear face of said rest plate and embodying la forwardly extending clamp arm projecting over the upper'edge of the rest plate and havingfa'downturned hook portion formed at its forward end overlying the front face of the rest plate, means for normally urging theclamp arm rearwardly, and a release lever pivotally connected at the rear 0f the rest plate below the clamping lever and embodying an arm portion slidably engaging' the clamping lever for manual movement of the clamp arm forwardly.
4. The combination with a copy holderV comprising a supporting structure embodying a stand arm, of a rest plate having a lip provided centrally of its lower edge and a overlying the front'face vof the rest plate,
spring means actingv upon the clamping lever for vnormally urging the clamp arm rearwardly, and a releaselever pivotally cony y nected intermediate'its ends to the rear face of therest-platey in longitudinal alignment below the clampinglever, with one arm portion loosely *engaging` the lower end of theY clampinglever and with the free end of its other armportion spaced behindthe lip at Y' the lower edge ofthe rest plate.
