Description

Sept. 11, 1928. 1,684,359
- E.- MULLER FUR TESTING AND. CUTTING DEVICE Filed gov. 7, 1927 7n velzlor:
Patented Sept. 11, 1928.
UNITED STATES ERNST MTULLER, OF BERLIN, GER-MANY.-
FUR TESTING AND CUTTING DEVICE.
Application filed November 7, 1927. Serial No. 231,583.
This invention relates to a fur testing and cutting device of the kind comprismg a fur support which is adapted to be depressed together with the fur over a knife whereby the fur is pierced, the fur being exposed to an air blast which is directed towards the knife point and which, parts the hair so as to reveal the bald or otherwise defective patches which are to be out.
It has been found in practice that the distance of the air nozzle from the fur re quires regulation in order to effect a proper parting of the hairs of different kinds of furs. Ithas also been found advantageous to maintain the nozzle in an inclined position so that hairs which are severed from the pelt by the knife will be'cleared away from the field of operation, and this inclination will have to be varied together with the vertical adjustment of the nozzle in order to keep the latter directed towards the knife point. 7
The object of the present invention is to meet these requirements, and the invention consists in the provision of a flexible air tube and in supporting said tube on a U- shaped arm one member of which is held adjustably in a supporting socket for regulating the distance of the nozzle from the fur, the other member being jointed so as to allow the nozzle-carrying end of the tube to be set at the required angle.
Figs. 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings represent elevations of the device at right angles to each other.
In said drawings g is the knife whereby the fur is cut, and e is the nozzle which directs the air blast to the knife, According to the invention the air is led to the nozzle through a flexible tube a which is supported on a Ushaped arm 6. One member of the latter carries the nozzle 0 in an inclined position, and it is jointed at f so as to allow the inclination to be varied. A wing nut 71, is used for rendering the joint rigid and maintaining the nozzle in adjusted position.
The other member of the arm I) is held in a supporting socket to which it is nor mally clamped by two. screws d and d. The arm can be adjusted in the socket for regulating the distance between the nozzle 0 and the knife 9 according to the nature of the fur. The inclination of the nozzle 6 is regulated at the same time so as to maintain the air blast in its proper direction relative to the knife 9. r
I claim: r v
In a fur testing and cuttingdevice of the character described, an air nozzle, a flexible pipe connected to said nozzle, a U- shaped arm supportingthe pipe and holding the nozzle along one of its members, said latter member being jointed so as to allow the nozzle to be set at different an.- gles, and a socket holding the other member of the arm so as to allow the latter and the nozzle to to be vertically adjusted.
