My improvement relates to an adjustablev stop ona hinge which when used andadjust ed to the point desired will only permit thehinge and door, gate or other object which is es hung thereon, toopen to the stop. The pin F has the head G on the upper end thereof and supports the stop member H which'is arranged on the outer end of `the projecting part H of the pin. The stop member H eX- tends below the head and along but spaced from'the pin F between the leaves, as shown. The upper section D of the knuckle of the hinge has therein one or more notches J `which are, preferably, cut to a depth equal to the length of the projecting part H and are otherwise adapted and arranged to receive the projecting part of the pin, for they purposes more fully hereinafter set forth.
The operation of my device is as follows When it is desired to limit the opening of a door or other hinged member on which my new and improved hinge is mounted the pin F is moved so that the projecting part H of the pin registers with one ofthe slots J.y The pin is then moved downwardly so that the part H enters the slot and is in the position shown in Fig. 2 extending outwardly from the pin into the space between the leaves C and C of the hinge. In this position the pin F and, in turn, the stop member H will be maintained in predetermined relation to the leaf Cito which is attached the upper section of the knuckle. Vhen the door is opened the free leaf- C will come in contact withl the'stop member Hand further opening. movement of the hinge will be stopped and, in turn, further openingof the doorwill be prevented. vIn this'. embodimentof my invention three notches J are `provided so that three different stop adjustments may be had, as shownr by the dot-ted lines in 8;. y
In, the modified forin of myj invention shown in Figs; L and '5 of the drawings the upper and lower heads K and Krespectivc ly, of the pin of the hinge are providedwith the notches L. .The upper head K] is prof vided, inV addition, with` the projecting parts My which are seated in notches N in the upper section of the knuckle whereby the pin` is prevented from turning and fismaintained` in predetermined relation to the leaf C ofy the hinge. The stop member in this form-comprises thebar O having the flanges P formed on the ends thereoadapted and arrangedto `be inserted in Vthenotches L whereby the bar issupported by the-pin. The flanges P' may bepwedgessl'iaped, as shown.. in Figi A5, sovthat they maybe more easily slipped into the notches. Thebar O may be also'provided with the small lugs to enter the slots R in the tubular ortions of the knuckle attached to the leaf to aid in maintaining the bar O in lation to the leaf C. Y
The operation of the modified form of my hinge is substantially the same as that of the first form described as the bar Ojmay be adjusted by placing the iianges vP in suitable slots L and when in the adjusted position will predetermined relimit the opening movement of the free leaf C', as shown.
Vhile both forms of the device described above embody my invention, the form illustrated in Figs. l, 2 and 3 has thefstop member H supported and carried by the pin of the hinge even though the pin may be rey.moved from the hinge and the form of my device illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 has the stop member O supported by the pin only when in adjusted position between the leaves of the hinge. Further, in the first embodiment of my invention as described above the top member iscarried by the projecting part H which enters one of the notches Kto maintain the pin and stop member in predetermined relation to one leaf ofthe hinge; but in the` Q adapted and arranged y lon second embodiment of my'invcntion the pro jecting part M does not carry the stop meniber but merely cooperates with a notch cut in the upper section of the knuckle of the hinge to maintain the pin and stop member in predetermined relation to a leaf of the hinge. The form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is for use where the stop member is not usually subjected to great pressure or strain and where the dooror other hingedV member is of light construction. The form illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, as may be readily seen, is adapted for use where the stop would be subjected to comparatively great 'pressure and strain and where the door or otherfhinged member isY of heavy construction. In this form the long bar Q will bear againstthe whole lengthiof the leaf C of the hinge and will withstand a comparatively great pressure.
Itmay be readily seen that the exact details of construction of a hinge embodying my invention maybe varied within wide limits without deviating from the spirit of the claims included below. For instance, in the annexed drawing and in this specification l provide for only three stop adjustments of the hinge, however, any number of stop adjustments may be provided by forming the necessary number of notches J or L.

3. A loose pin hinge having a plurality of leaves joined together at a knuckle, the upper section of said knuckle having a notch cut therein, said pin having a projecting part adapted to be inserted in said notch so as to be positioned below the upper end of said hinge and to project from -said pin into the space between said leaves whereby said `pin is maintained lin predetermined relation to the leaf to which said tubularseetion is attached and whereby the opening movement of said hinge will be stopped when the free leaf thereof engages said projecting part.
