JAMES I. FIBESTONE, OF DOWAGIAC, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO THE BECKWITH COM- PANY, OF DOWAGIAC, MICHIGAN.
OVEN.
Application filed February 13, 1928. Serial No. 254,113.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved oven for gas stoves 1n which the fumes are effectively carried from the oven to a vent and do not escape to the outside at thetop of the door or between the door and its frame.
Objects pertaining to details and ec0nomics of the invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which: n
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of an oven embodying the features of my invention with the door partially open.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fi 1.
Tteferring to the drawing, 1 represents the open or cooking top unit of a gas stove and 2 the oven. This oven is, in the embodiment illustrated, provided with an outer casing 3 having a vent 4 in its rear wall 5. The 1nner casing designated generally by the numeral 6 is spaced from the outer casing, the top wall 7 of the inner casing having one or more vent openings 8 adjacent the front thereof. The fumes pass from the oven through this vent opening 8 rearwardly between the top walls of thecasings to the exit 4:. v i
The door frame 9 is provided with an inwardly seating forwardly facing jamb 10. The door 11 is hinged to this frame and is provided with a lining 12. At its upper end the lining is folded upon itself to provide a horizontall disposed flange 18 which closes into the oor opening. The outer free arm 14 of this flange provides a spring member which yieldingly engages the top edge 15 of the door opening. 7
This inwardly projecting flange 13 serves as a deflector directing the fumes passing from the oven through the vent opening 8 and preventing their passing out at the upper edge of the door, thus not'only preventing the fumes escaping into the room but preventing the discoloration of the finish or tarnish.
ters Patent is:
this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to adapt my improvements as may be desired. 7
Having thusdescribed my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- 1. An oven comprising a top provided with a vent opening adjacent the front thereof, a door frame, a door hinged to said frame to close againstthe front side thereof, and a lining for said door having its upper edge folded upon itself providing a horizontally disposed flange projecting into the opening of the door frame, the free arm of said flange being adapted to yieldingly engage the top edge of the door frame'when the door is closed.
2. An oven comprising a top provided with a vent opening adjacent the front thereof, a door frame, a door hinged to said frame to close against the front side thereof, and a lining for said door having its upper edge conformed to provide a horizontally disposed flange projecting into the opening of the door frame, the free arm of said flange being adapted to yieldingly engage the top edge of the door frame when the door is closed. 7
An ovencomprising a top wall having a vent opening adjacent the front thereof, a door frame provided with a forwardly facing jamb, a door hinged to said frame to close against said forwardly facing jamb, and a lining for said door having its upper edge folded upon itself and disposed horizontally providing an inwardly projecting flange projecting into the door frame .when the door is closed to deflect the products of combustion from the top of the door into said vent opening. 4. An oven having a top wall with vent openings adjacent the front edge thereof, and a door provided with an inwardly directed flange adjacent its upper edge adapted to project into the oven when the door is closed to deflect the fumes passing from the oven into said vent openings and away from edge adapted to elose into the door opening the joint between the top of the oven door to protect the joint between the upper edge and its frame. of the door and its frame.
5. The combination with an oven pro- In witness whereof I have hereunto set 5 vided with a top having a vent opening at my hand.
the front thereof and a. door providedwith an inwardly prO ecting flange at its upper JAMES F. FIRESTONE.
