Description

W. T. WHITAKER HOLDER FOR? IOPS Filed Sept. 22, 1926 July 1.7, 1928.

HOLDER FOR lllIOPS.v
applicati@ invention rvrelates to an imprevement in holders'for mops and more particularlyto holders adapted'for use in connection with mops of the type used for ldusting and the nature polishing.
Heretofore various types of mop and duster holders have been produced, but in the main such holders have been found to be irela# tively unsatisfactory where it is desired to Vuse the mop for general dusting and polishing, especially where it is desired to have the mop effective in oddcorners, as for example, under radiators.- f l Now in accordance with my invention, l provide a mop holder so constructed for attachment to a mop as to permit the mop' Vto be made effective in a variety ofways' dusting and polishing and to enable its use at various angles relative to the handle.
Having now indicated, in a generalV Way, and purpose of my invention, I will proceed to a detailed description-thereof with reference to the accompanying ings in which there .is illustrated a preferred embodiment and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a mop equipped with a handle embodying my invention. Y n
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the lower end of' the handle and attaching means embodying my invention. e
Fig. 8 is a detailed View of a modificationof one of the fastening means.
Figs. 4 and 5 are detailed views of meansfor attaching thehandle to a mop.
Fig. 6 is a detailed view of a modification.
Referring to the drawings A indicatesva having a loop B on on its upper surface. The mop A; may be, for example, Y constructed in accordance vwith the disclosure of the application for United States patent of William D. Whitaker, filed June 21, 1926, Serial No. 117,290.l
C indicates a handle which may be made of any desirable material, as wood, and of any desirable length. The handle C is provided in its lower end with a slot D and adjacent its lowerend with aligning holes E kextending at right angles to and opening ini to slot D.
F indicates a handle C tothe mop A. The connector 1s formed, preferably, lfrom relatively heavy wire bent upon itself to form a loop f and having jits end portions f extending in oppo site directions and for drawf nector securing the connector from one end e v from its junction with connector for securing the hereunto set my Penna., on this 14th day of September', 1926.V

of theend portions being of greater length than the other as illustratedin yFigure 2. The end of thelonger end portion f of the connector may be protected by a ball G,sor' bent around upon itself'as at .1. YThe end portions fkfof .the connector'aregadapted to be extended into the loop Bof the mop, from opposite ends to secure i mop, and the loop f is adapted-to be inserted in the slot D in handleC, as shown in Figure l. V Y
,The loop f ofthe connector isretained in handle .C bymeans of la clasp H, preferably formed from heavy wire,
bent to form a the connector to the curvedfend Vportion h extending throughout slightly more lthan 180o andthe radius of which is about that of the handle, and a4 straight end portion h extending at an angle tothe .intermediateportion of the clasp.
to .be passed through the holes E` handlev C and through'loop Since the end portion hv is atan angle toV i The end portion L of the vclasp isaidapted in the, f of the con-,.- to the handle.
the intermediate portion of the clasp, the
intermediate portion extends'at anangle to the handle when the "portion h is entered in holes E. The clasp is secured to the handle by engaging its. curved end portion haboutV the handle, which causesv the intermediate portion of the clasp tobey sprung in and under tension, which'tends to preventV withdrawal of end portion h from holes E. The curvedportion h, sinceit extends morev than 180, extends more than half way e put around the handleand will not disengage itself. n Y
f l Having now fully described my invention,
what I Aclaim vand desire to protect' by ters Patent is z- Y A holder for a mop comprising a handle providedv with `a slot extending inwardly thereof, a mop holding member extending Within the slot, and a pin extendingthrough'v the handlegand across the lslot and vforming af pivotal -mountingrfor the member., saidvpin being provided with a clip at one end `of the pin and embracing the handle, said V.clip extending. about the handle the pin beyond the Letfree end ofthe pin. v
