Description

July 3, 1928.
E. LIND COMB Filed April is, 1927 Patented July 3, 1928.
EBBA LIND, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMB.
Application filed April 16, 1927.
This invention relates to combs, and particularly to a comb intended for use by hairdressers, barbers and others, where facility in the manipulation of the comb is desired and where it is desirable to have a comb with a section provided with line teeth and a sec tion provided with coarse teeth, said sections or portions being integral and shaped so that the back and ends of the teeth will diverge longitudinally at an obtuse angle relative to the center of the comb.
It is furthermore an object of this invention to provide a comb of the character inclicated in which the sections having the teeth of different characters are integral with each other and are located at obtuse angles to each other in order that the manipulation of the comb may be effected without liability of one portion of the comb affecting the result attainable by the use of the other portion thereof. In other words, the improved device may be used by operators engaging in so-called finger waving and wet dressing of hair, including the dressing of false hair and in connection with the production of socalled water waves produced by finger waving or wet-dressing hair.
The structural features of the invention result in advantages, since neither end of the comb will interfere with the other when the comb is being manipulated, and the angularly disposed portions result in leaving the already dressed portions of the hair undisturbed as the process of treating the hair progresses.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing, in which a comb embodying the invention is illustrated by a view in elevation.
In the drawing, the back of the comb is shown as having a relatively wide central portion 5 and diverging slightly tapered end portions 6 and 7, and preferably the end por- Serial No. 184,314..
tions and teeth stand at rather acute angles to each other in order that in the manipu lation of the comb, the teeth 8 of the portion 6 of the back may not interfere or come in contact with the work being done in manipulating the teeth 9 on the section 7 of the comb. It is seen that the teeth 8 are what are usually referred to as fine teeth and that the teeth 9 are coarser so that the two aids of the comb may be employed for different characters of work, and since they are at angles to each other, the teeth of one end will not interfere or mar the work already done as the comb is manipulated.
By reference to the drawings it will be noted that the ends of the teeth of the comb and intermediate portions of the outer edge of the back diverge from the horizontal at an angle of about 10 and, in use, the portion of the comb which is held in the hand will be maintained in such position that the teeth of an adjacent portion will not be in position to engage with or disarrange the hair which has already been dressed, and that a hairdresser skilled in the use of an ordinary comb may use at once advantageously my invention in wet dressing or finger waving the hair.
I claim:
ljA toilet comb for use in finger waving or wet dressing hair the back edge thereof being shaped to diverge longitudinally from 9 the center of the comb outward, the edge of the back from which the teeth project being concave, the ends of the teeth on opposite sides of the center of the comb diverging at an obtuse angle of approximately 10 to be substantially parallel with the back edge of the comb.
2. A comb for finger waving or wet dressing hair in which the points of the teeth and intermediate portions of the outer edge of the back on opposite sides of the center of the comb are substantially parallel and diverge from the center of the comb at an obtuse angle of about 10, for the purpose set forth.
