BRACELET HOOK.

Thisinvention relates to bracelet hooks, and has for its object to provide a hook of this character more particularly torremovably attaching the ends of a bracelet to a wrist watch, the improved hook being of the-extensible variety so as'to permit the general stretch or extensibility of the brace let unit to be increased to facilitate. its being passed over the hand of the wearer.
A further object otthe inventionis the provision of a bracelethook comprising a body member anda hook member having a portion slidable in the body member the hook having a closing tongue locked closed whenthe membersare in contracted position and released to. be opened when the members are in extended position witln a, spring arranged to not between said members to press them toward contracted position.

The body member 10 of this bracelet hbok is preferably formed from a blank of sheet stock providing a front plate 11 with side portions folded to form the side walLlQ and its edges turnedinwardly to form portions 13 of a. bottom wall and the edges of these portions being folded. inwardly at l t to provide longitudinal space 15 in the back of uthe body member in which the spring presently described, is guided.
One end of these side walls 12 is provided with. inturned.members 16.110 provide an at taching crossbar on the body member and the bottonrwall portions of this body memher are hereinshown as being provided with lateral extensions 17 which are folded into position to. extend through between the arms of the hook-member, for the purpose pres ently described.
.Mounted to slide in this body member is a hook member 18 which is preferably formed of a strip of sheet stock into elongated band shape having a relatively broad front arm l9, one end of which ;is bentto iornra hook 20, and a relatively narrow arm 21 is connectedto the broader-arm by a bridge 22. The forward end of the narrower arm is arrangedto extend under the hooksas at 23 to prevent the hook from being opened outwardly.
The shank-portion of this hook member is arranged to slide into the body member and the resilient armQl thereof is arranged to: be positioned in. the space 15 between the bottom wall portions 13 of this body member to close this opening and so complete this bottom wall, the broader arm 19 being arranged to slide beneath the inturned edges 14: and between the side walls 12 of the body member, and this hook portion is of a length considerably greater than that of the body member so that the hook portion will extend a substantial distance beyond the body member, the folded shank portion only of the hook being housed in the body.
In assembling the parts the shank portion of the hook is positioned in the body member, the spring is positioned in the shank member, its rear end abutting the bridge portion thereof and the forward end of this spring being compressed and .the abutment arms 17 are turned inwardly to serve as an abutment for the other end of the spring causing it to press the hook member into the housing member, whereby the abutment arms serve a double purpose, first. to hold the spring under compression; and second, to fit closely between the arms of the hook to prevent the resilient arm thereof from being depressed while these hook members are in contracted position. 'lherefore, in order to permit this resilient arm 21 to be compressed for the purpose of opening the hook, it is necessary to extend the hook members relatively into the position illustrated in Figures 8 and 9 of the drawing, whereby the tongue may be depressed and so open the hook to be attached to the bail of a watch or other desired object.
My improved extensible hook is capable of the maximum extension and so serves to cooperate with the extensible links of the bracelet to considerably elongate the whole and at the same time the hook is locked against inadvertent opening except when the hook is in extended position.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An extensible bracelet hook comprising a casing member, a hook member having a shank portion slidable in saidcasing and having a hook portion extending a snbstantial distance beyond the casing, a hookclosing tongue carried by the hook member and locked closed when the members are relatively contracted and released when said members are in extended position.
2. An extensible bracelet hook comprising a body member formed of sheet stock, a hook member having a shank portion slidable in said body member and having a hook portion extending a substantial distance beyond said body, a for closing the from being compressed when the members are in contracted position, and a spring acting to press said members toward contracted position.
4, An extensible bracelet hook comprising a body member, a hook member formed of elongated band shape having a shank portion slidable in sald body and having a hook-shaped portion extending a substantial distance beyond said body, aspring acting between said members to press them toward contracted position, and means for preventing the hook from being opened except when in extended position.
5. An extensible bracelet link comprising a guide member formed of sheet stock and having a broad front face and side walls, a hook member having a shank portion slidable in the guide member and having an enlarged hook portion extending a substantial distance beyond the guide member, said extending portion having a front face substantially flush with the plane of the front face of its guide member, a resilient tongue for closing the hook, a stop for preventing the tongue from being compressed when the members are in contracted position and a. spring acting to press said members toward contracted position.
6. An extensible bracelet hook comprising a casing member formed of sheet stock.
folded to provide front, side and rear walls, a hook member formed of a strip of metal. folded into elongated band shape having a shank portion slidable in said casing member and having a hook portion extending a substantial distance beyond its casing, the front arm of the band being formed in book shape and the rear arm forms aresilient closing tongue and members carried by the casing extending between said arms to prevent them from being depressed to open the hook except when in extended position, and a spring acting to press said members toward contracted position.
7. An expansion catch comprising two members of sheet metal bent upon themselves and having openings permitting one member to slide within the other, one member comprising a hook and a catch therefor, and the other member a lock for said catch.
