ATTACHMENT FOR HOUSEHOLD REFRIGERATORS.
Application filed October 21, 1926. Serial No. 143,213.
This invention relates to attachments for household refrigerators and has for its obect the provision of adevice which may be readily connected to a household refrig erator and supported within an open door vision of a device which may be supported within the open door of a household refrigand adjacent a block of ice for collecting chips of ice whichhave been removed from the block.
Another object of the invention is the proerator which is adapted to extend upwardly and outwardly of the door and having a movable portion for engagement with a block of ice so that as pieces of ice are chipped from the block they will be collected within the attachment.
This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following de tailed description, in view. of the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification; nevertheless it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications which shall define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a household refrigeratorshowing my attach ment applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary section of a refrigerator and the attachment.
Figure 3 is a plan view of such, attachment.
Figure 4 is a view in perspective of the attachment with parts disconnected.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1O designates a refrigerator having a chamber 11 provided with an opening 12 through which a block of ice 13 is adapted to be inserted. A door 141-15 adapted to close the opening. The attachment for the household refrigerator comprises a front section generally designated by the numeral 15 which is formed of metal bent to shape. This member has a front plate 16 and end plates 17. The front plate at its upper end is provided with an outwardly and downwardly curved portion 18 which is formed along its edge to provide a handle for holding the device. A bottom plate 19 is also provided which is connected to the front plate 16 and the end plate 17. Along the upper inner edge of the .end plate 17 ears 20'are provided for a purpose which will be presently explained.
A second section 21 of smaller size than the member 15 is adapted to cooperate with said member for collecting the chips of ice.
The second section has a rear wall 22and end walls 23. I Each end wall has a lug 24 projecting from the inner edge of the end plates 23 and located in parallel relation with said end plates. These lugs are adapted to be received by lugs 25 projecting from the rear edges of the end plates 17 and are disposed in parallel relation with said end walls. The bottom of section 15 has a bear.- ing 26 disposed in alternate relation with bearings 26 on the bottom of section 21 and are adapted to receive a pintle bar 27 whereby the section 21 is swingably mounted relative to section 15. c
The attachment is to be applied to a refrigerato in the following manner:
When t is desired to remove particles the ears 20 are placed within the opening 12 of the refrigerator so that they will engage the inner face of the wall of the chamber 11 adjacent the opening 12. The bottom 19 of the section 15 is placed so that it will rest upon the sill of the opening. The upper edge 30 of the section 21 will rest against the outer face of the block of ice 13 so that when the ice is chipped from the block it will be caught by the cooperating sections 15 and 21.
The cooperating lugs 24 and 25 of the two sections are adapted to be interfitted and the section 21 will be held in position relative to thesection 15. It will be seen that the device is constructed from two pieces of sheet metal and the pintle bar 27 and therefore the manufacture of said device involves only bending and cutting operations.
nected with the first mentioned section, and
means for maintaining the sections in extended relation relative to each. other to provide a receptacle open at the top, the
sections opening into each other, the open portion of one section extending above the open portion of the other section.
2. A device of the class described formed of two sections, one section being substantially V-shaped in cross section, a second section pivotally connected at its lower end with the lower end of the first mentioned section, the sections being in open communication with each other, cooperating lugs for holding the sections in extended relation to provide a receptacle open at the top, and lugs projecting from the first mentioned container for retaining the same in position.
3. A device of the class described formed of two sections, one section having a front wall, side walls and a bottom, the inner ends of the side walls being provided with supporting lugs, said side walls also being provided with inwardly projecting lugs, a sec,- ond section having pivotal connections with the lower end of the first mentioned section and having its lower end located within the first mentioned section, lugs projecting inwardly from the second mentioned section and adapted to engage the second mentioned lugs of the first section for holding the two sections in operative relation with each other to provide a receptacle open at the top.
4:. A device of the class describedformed of two sections, one of the sections being V-shaped in cross section and having its inner end open, a second section having its end facing the first mentioned section open whereby the two'sections are in communication with each other, the lower end of the second mentioned section being received within the first section, means for pivotally connecting the second section to the first mentioned section, and means permitting movement of the two sections relative to each other but preventing disengagement of said sections, said sections cooperating to provide a receptacle open at the top the first mentioned section having that portion open whlch faces the second mentioned section and with the first mentioned section extending above the second mentioned section. v
