REvoLvING ADVERTISING .APrAATUs Filed March 13, 1925 Patented Maly 22, 19,28.
UNITED STA MORGAN J'. LEWIS, OlF HASSILLON, OHIO.
BEVOLVING ADVERTISING APPARATUS.
Application led Hatch 13, 1925. Serial No. 15,199.
This invention relates to advertising devices, and more particularly to a revolving'V apparatus especially designed for use in advertising gasoline filling stations and the 5 like.
The objects of the improvement are to provide 4a device including4 a revolving sphere enclosing a lamp, a plurality of colored lenses being located around the median line of the. sphere for projecting colored iood lights outward in a substantially horizontal direction, and a plurality of spot light lenses being carried by the sphere for projecting ,spot lights upon the ground around the device; a-stationary lighted sign being mounted above the sphere.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
which- The figure is a vertical, longitudinal, sectional view of a revolving apparatus em bod'ying the invention.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the drawmg.
The apparatus is preferably mounted upon a hollow post or column `1`, which supports the housing 2 provided with a bracket 3 upon which is supported the' central hollow shaft 4, surrounded by a bushing 5 upon whichis journaled the sleeve 6.
. An annular bearing flange 7 is formed upon the sleeve and provided with a -ballrace 8 to receive the balls 9 which are .mounti ed in a ballfrace 10, formed in the top wall of the housing, providing a thrust bearing for the sleeve 6 andthe apparatus carried thereby. A worm ear 11 is fixed upon the lower end of the s eeve 6 and meshes .with
a`globe 19 upon which any desired advertising matter may be dis layed. Wires 20 are located within the hol ow post 1 and extend through the shaft 4 and pipe 16 to the lamps 14 and 18. 1
A hollow sphere 21, preferably formed of sheet metal, is lixed upon the upper end of the sleeve 6 and surrounds the incandescent bulb 14 and pipe 15, being provided at its upper end with the bearing portion 22 which is journaled upon the stralofht portion 17 of the pipe, just below the glozbe 19.
Lenses 23,'preferably of different colors, are provided at spaced intervals in the hollow s here, 21, substantially at the median line t ereof to project flood lights of different colors in a substantially horizontal direction from the sphere.
Tapered tubes 24 are also provided at intervals around the lower portion of the sphere and spot light lenses 26 are carried at the inner ends of said tubes in order to direct spot lights upon the ground adjacent to the post 1, as the sphere is rotated.
Itwill be seen that b operating the motor 13, the sphere 21, tirough the gearing shown, will be continuously rotated, throwing flood lights of deil'erent colors in all directions from the sphere 'and throwing a spot light upon the ground surrounding the post, thel spot lights traveling in a circle upon the ground as the sphere rotates.
The globe 19, provided with the advertising matter, remains stationary and thus attention is attracted to the apparatus from aconsiderable distance away by the rotating fiood lights and spot lights.
I claim 1. An a paratus of the character de' scribed inc uding a rotatable sphere, means for rotating the sphere, a stationary tubular shaft upon which the sphere vis journaled,
`zontal direction, and a plurality of spot light'lenses in the sphere arran ed to direet spot lights downward from t e sphere.
2. An apparatus of the character described including a hollow shaft having a curved in the sphere for directing ood lights subportion intermediate its extremities,A a lamp stantially horizontally from the first named 10 mounted upon the .shaft at said curved porlamp and spot light lenses in the sphere for tion, a second lamp mounted at the upper directing spot lights downward from the 5 end of the shaft, Wires in the hollow shaft lamp.
connected to said lamps, a hollow sphere ro- In testimony that I claim the above, I g tatably mounted upon the shaft and encloshave hereunto Subscribed my name. ing the first named lump, flood light lenses MORGAN J. LEI/VIS.
