Description

G, B. STET'SDN.
Screw-Cutting Die.
Patented Aug. 24,1875.

- ATTORNEYS.
N. PETERS. know-Emmi":
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
GEORGE E. STETSON, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCREW-CUTTING DIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,035, dated August 24, 1875 application filed August 6, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE R. STETsoN, of New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Screw-Cutting Die, of which the following is a specification:
In this improvement the chasersare fitted in sockets of a solid die, tapered so that the chasers are held by a binding-screw at one side of each, and two of the chasers are provided with an adjusting-screw to set them up toward the others as the chasers wear away. The arrangement atfords a simple means of holding, and detaching and attaching chasers for changing from one. size of thread to another, and of setting them up as they wear.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved die, with a part in horizontal section, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of Fig. 1 on line a; :0.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the solid die-stock, in which thechasers B are fitted in slots tapered in the transverse direction of the chasers, as shown in Fig. 2, so that they are held in place by a screw, 0, screwing down against the wide side, being a simple arrangement, very cheap to construct and easy to change. Two of the chasers have an adjusting-screw, E, for setting them up to compensate for wear.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The chasers B fitted in tapered slots in the solid die-stock A, and secured by a binding-screw, O, in the manner described.
2. The combination, with the chaser B fitted in a tapered slot and secured by a binding-screw, G, of an adjusting-screw, E, substantially as specified.
GEORGE R. STETSON. Witnesses:
