SIGN.
Application filed January 27, 1,927. Serial No. 163,970.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in signs.
The object of the invention is to provide a sign which may be readily attached or detached to a wire mesh support or similar structure, without the use of screws or other fastenings.
A particular object of the invention is to provide a sign which may be readily at tached to the wire guard usually surrounding a liquid dispenser cylinder or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sign having adjustable brackets adapted to be engaged in meshes of different spacings.
A construction designed to carry out the invention will be hereinafter described, together with other features of the invention.
The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompany ing drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown and wherein:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of an upper portion of a liquid dispenser showing a sign, constructed in accordance with my invention, at tached thereto,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation of said sign and a portion of the guard in section,
Fig. 3 is a view of a portion of the guard showing portions of one of the brackets enga ed in the meshes of said guard,
ig. 4 is a horizontal cross-sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing brackets adjustable to engage in differently spaced meshes.
In the drawings the numeral 10 designates an upright plate which may be made of metal or any other suitable material. This plate has a pair of vertical openings or win dows l1, and on its front side is provided with lugs 12. A pair of panels 13 is inserted in each set of lugs over each window. Each panel is printed with a numeral and placed with its back to the other panel so that the numerals will be displayed through the windows, as well as from the front of the panel. The particular arrangement of the plate 10 and the matter displayed thereon may vary in accordance with the purpose for which the sign'is used.
Along the inner vertical edge of the plate 10 a flange 14 is bent at right angles to the plate and the upper and lower portions of at the bottom.
said flange are bent outwardly at right angles and cut to produce brackets 15. I have shown two brackets at the top and two Each bracket is provided with opposite notches 16.
To attach the sign, it is merely necessary to insert the brackets in the meshes A of the guard B and then slide the brackets down until the converging wires 0 are received in the notches 16 and said brackets rest in the bottoms of the meshes. The sign may be as easily removed. The sign is particularly advantageous owing to the fact that it may be attached directly to the guard surrounding the container from which the commodity is sold. 1
It is obvious that different makes of guards may have their meshes of various sizes and, therefore, the stationary brackets, while engaging at one end in the meshes may not fit at the other end. To take care of such a condition, I have shown adjustable brackets in Fig. 5. In this instance I provide. the flange let with a lip 17 along its outer edges. Slides 18 are attached to the brackets 19, which extend at right-angles and are provided with notches 20. Each slide has a vertical slot 21 receiving a stud bolt 22 carried by the flange. A wing nut 23 mounted on each bolt serves to fasten the slide in place. It will be seen that either the upper or lower brackets may be vertically adjusted to properly engage in the meshes of the guard.
Various changes in the size and shape of the differentparts, as well as modifications and alterations, may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim, is:
1. A sign comprising a plate, a flange bent at right'angles from one vertical edge of the plate, and brackets directed from the top and bottom edges of the flange at an angle thereto and notched for engaging the wires of the meshes of a foraminous support.
2. A sign comprising a plate, a flange directed from one edge of the plate at an angle thereto, slides adjustable at each end of the flange longitudinally thereof, and brackets directed outwardly from the slides and shaped to engage and lock in the meshes of a foraminous support.
3. A sign comprising a plate, and brackets disposed in a vertical plane and connected to said plate and having at opposite sides interlocking means spaced to engage in the 5. A sign comprising a plate, a flange di- 1 meshes of an open mesh support. reeted from one vertical edge of the plate at 4. The combination with a cylindrical an angle thereto, and spaced brackets extendguard of a mesh type, of a sign plate, and ing from the upper and lower ends of the brackets disposed in a vertical plane and flange and each shaped at opposite outer connected to said plate and adjustable veredges to engage and lock with the walls of 15 tically to engage in the meshes of said guard a mesh support. to hold the sign against outward displace In testimon whereof I afiix my signature. ment therefrom.
