BROOM HOLDER OR RACK.

My said invention relates to a broom holder or rack adaptedv to be used for displa ing brooms, or like articles having round iandles, and it is an object of the invention to provide a broom holder of neat appearance, durable construction and of substantially negligible cost, all as will Jae hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,

In the drawings reference character indicates a substantially flat body and preferably made of cardboard through the upper marginal edge of which one or more fastening devices such as tacks or small nails may be driven for maintaining the device in suspended position. At the bottom edge of the body or card is secured tacks, or other appropriate means for securing thereto a bar 11 which preferably extends entirely across the same, the upper snrface 12 of which is substantially flat and the front face 13 of said bar is inclined with its lower edge spaced at a greater distance from the body 10 than its upper edge for a purpose to be hereinafter described. Eye screws 14 are secured in uniformly spaced relation along the upper surface 12 of the strip.

Between each pair of eye screwsis pivoted a clamping loop 15. Each clamping loo is adapted to engage the handle of an ob ect such as a broom for supporting the same and is formed from a single piece of mate rial, preferably Wire, bent to an angle of substantially V-form with the ends of the loop bent outwardly at substantially right angles. The legs of the loops 15 are pressed together and one loop is placed between each pair of screw eyes with the outwardly bent end and portions inserted in the eyes of the screws 14.

With this construction when the device is suspended it will naturally assume a vertical position with the lower edge of the face 13 spaced from the vertical plane of the upper edge. A. round handle 16 such as that of a broom inserted in each loop will hear at one side against the loop and at its opposite side against the lower edge of the face 13 of the bar upon which the loop is mounted. Said lower edge will serve as a fulcrum since the loop is pivotally mounted in vertical spaced relation from the fulcrum and thus weight applied upon a handle of this char acter will cause the clamping loop to c0opcrate with the fulcrum edge of the bar and securely grip the articles suspended in the loop. To remove the broom or other article supported from the clamp it is only necessary to swing the broom handle to a position substantially parallel with the face 13 where it may be easily removed. The broom or like article may be readily inserted or removed from the holder without touching the same with the hands it being merely necessary to insert the handle of the broom in the clamping loop and permit the weight of the broom to cause the same to be gripped by the holder.

By providing fixed eye screws in uniformly spaced relation the sides of the loops are prevented from opening or moving laterally sufficiently to permit the article supported thereby to become disengaged from the sup port by its own weight or accidentally.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I, therefore do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawings and described in the specification. but only asset forth in the appended claim.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

A broom holder comprising a bar having an inclined front face, a plurality of eye screws mounted in fixed spaced relation on the upper face of said bar, clamping loops having their ends disposed in said eye screws, whereby the handle of an article inserted in a loop will be engaged by the loop and gripped thereby and by thelowcr edge of said inclined face, and means to which the bar is attached and extending upwardly therefrom against which the loops may rest when in upright position, substantially as set forth. 7
