' L. A. HOERR ANGLE COCK AND PIPE HQLDER Filed Feb. 8, 1924 l I l l 1 l INVENTOR 6f L.A.HOEBR ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 24, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS A. HOERR, s1 LOUIS, IIIssoUR ASSIGNOR r0 RAILWAY DEVICES com:-
PANY, A coaroaarron or MISSOURI.
ANGLE-COCK AND PIPE HOLDER. 7
Application filed February My invention relates to a combined angle cock and pipe holder and has for its object the production of a simple and effective device which will not only engage with an angle cock to prevent both rotary and longitudinal movement, but will also engage the train pipe behind the coupling. By such construction I not only strengthen the,- device itself by the plurality of bearing'points but also protect the train pipe against flexure at the coupling, thus reducing the likelihood of leakage at this point- In the accompanying drawingswhich il-' lustrate one form of holder made in accord ance with my invention, Figured is a side elevation; Figure 2 is a front View, the train pipe being shown in section; and Figure I 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure wardly and downwardly at a slight angle terminating in a horizontal part8 adapted to bear upon one of the faces of the hexagonal head 9 of the angle cook 10. Passing around the train pipe 11 adjacent to the head 9 is a U-shaped strap 12 provided with "a pair of horizontal wings 13adapted tobear' against the under face of the horizontal part 8 of the plate 7. The part 8 and wings 18 are provided with aligning perforationsadapted to receive threaded studs 14 preferably formed integral with a member 15. This member 15 is substantially U-shaped but isofiset at 16 in the direction of the length of the train pipe 11 so as to extend forwardly a suflicient distance to engage with the recess between the body ofthe angle cock 1O and'its head 9. The studs 14 are engaged by nuts 17 which firmly hold both the member 16 and the strap 12 in place. Said studs are preferably provided with slots 18 so that they may be spread to prevent the accidental loos-- ening of the nuts.
The train pipe two parts secured together by a coupling 20,
the forward; part being commonly termed the nipple. The part of the train pipe at I 11, as is usual, is formed of a, 1924. Serial No. @1329.
the rear of the coupling 20 is engaged by the V downwardly projecting end 21 of the plate 7,- which end is preferably tapered, as shown in Figure2, and is provided with an openi'lng 22 of the'proper size to receive the pipe Iii-applying my device'to a car the opening 22 is placedover the rear end of the train pipe 11,- from which the front part and the coupling 20 have been removed, after which the plate 7 is secured to the end sill and the I two parts of the train pipe connected by the coupling 20. It is now only necessary to place the strap 12 andme'mber 15in position and screw down the nuts 17. It will be seen that my holder not only engages the train pipe at both sides of the coupling, but also engages the angle cock so as to firmly hold itv in positionagainst both rotary and longitudinal movement. v
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is: a V
' 1. A supporting devicefor the elements of a railway car consisting of a train pipe, a train pipe nipple coupled to thepipe and an angle cock carried by the nipple, which com prises a one-piece bent plate adapted to be secured to the carat a pointintermediate the ends of the plate, the rear end of said plate being bent downward to support the train pipe independently of the nipple, the forward end of said plate being positioned to prevent rotation of the angle cock, and means carried by said forward end of the plateand separable therefrom and adapted tosupport the forward end of the train pipe nipple. Y Y Y 2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a plate secured to a car and having .a forwardly projecting portion, a pipe clamping strap provided with wings, said plate and wings being provided with faligningperforations, angle cock retaining means comprising an ofiset U-shapedmemher. and integral threaded studs passing through said'perforations, and nuts engaging said studs. v v V In testimonywhereof, I have hereunto set my hand this the 6th dayof February, 1924.
