WEATHER STRIP.
application led April 11, 1924, Serial No. 705,834. Divided and this application iiled June 18,
1925. Serial No. 37,988.
v1li nation of parts herein shown and described,
and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters vindicate `like or corresponding Fig. 1 is a fragmentary horizontal section .through a window, a plurality of weather strips embodying my invention being shown in connection therewith; and
Fig.- 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the weather stripping shown in Fig. 1-
In the drawing, the reference character .10 is a window casing of any suitable constructtion and adapted to accommodate an upper sash 11 and a lower sash 12 of suitable construction. Oneredge of the sash 11 rides between avstop-piece 13 and a partition strip 14. Likewise, one edge of the sash 12 rides between the partition strip 14 and a stop strip 15. Secured tothe casingA 10 and engageable by the sashes 11 and l2 are a pluv nallty of weather strips 17 of substantially identical construction, lo ne strip being provided i'or the sash 11 and another strip being provided for the sash 12.
Each weather strip 17 is preferably formed from a strip of metal havino' some resiliency.
and comprises a flat portion 18 adapted to lie against the casing 10. One edge of the fiat portion 18 is folded back as at 19 to prof vide superimposed layers of metal through which screws or nails 20 may be driven to secure the weather strip to the casing 10. l The weather strip 17 may be provided with Amediate portion 22 back along and away holes or openings 21 to accommodate th screws or nails 20. The opposite edge of the `fiat portion 18 is also folded back to provide an intermediate portion 22 which contacts with a relatively small surface on the portion 18, the remainder of the intermediate portion 22 being spaced from the fiat portion from itself. The leaf portion 24 is prefer'- ably arcuate in form so that it will not bite into its associated sash 11 or12. The weather strip 17 associated with the sash 11 is shown in the form it normally assumes when it is not compressed by the sash 11. The weather strip' 17 associated with the sash 12 is shown compressed by that sash, in which position it eil'ectually prevents a flow of cold air, dust, dirt or the like from the space between the sash and the casing. Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial lmodifications may be made in the -same without departing `from the spirit of my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as `limiting myself to the exact i'orm, construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinvshown and described or uses mentioned'.
What I claim as new and'desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A weather strip formed of a substantially fiat metal strip having-one edge bent over to lic on one face thereof. the other edge bent 35 over to form an intermediate portion having one edge lying latagainst that face of the main strip onto which the first edge is folded, an outer yieldable leaf portion formed by bending the outer edge of the intermediate portion back along and away i'rom itself, and the extreme outer edge being slight- 1y curved away from the main strip to form aconvex bearing surface.y
In testimony whereof I have hereunto 95 signed my name.
wnLIAM J. DENNIS.
