This invention relates to improyements in scarifiers, my principal objects being to pro vide' an implement of thischaracter so con;
structed that the pull onthe drawbar will exert a constant downward pressure on the frame of the implement and consequently on the scarifier teeth, and all pulling strains will be imparted directly to the'tooth block; toarrange for raising and lowering the teeth so that they may be accurately regulated and without any-lost motion Qbeing had; and to mount the teeth in their supporting block so'that while rig'idly held in place they may be easily removed oradjusted longitudinally at anytime.) t
further'object of the invention isfto produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one whichwillbeexceedingly effective for the purpose for whieh it -is designed. These obje cts I, accomplish by means of 3 such structure-I and relativear'r'angement of parts as will fully appear by a'pe'rusal ofthefollowing specification and claims. foIn the, drawings similar characters of ref- '25 ei'enc ef indieatecorresponding parts in the severalyiews: J y i 1 is a side elevation of myimproved scarifier. x Fig. 2. is a top plan viewof thefsam'e. Fig. 3 is'a transverse section 'onrth'e line 33 of Fig. I,
Fig. 4 is an enlarged longitudinal sect on I of the forward end of the'implement taken on the line 4-4: of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary transverse section showing themountlng of the tooth block adjusting means on the frame and block.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional elevation of the tooth'block showing the manner of mounting the teeth therein.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the frame ofthe machine comprises longitudinal side beams 1 suitably spaced apart. These beams are connected at their rear ends by a cross member 2 and at their front ends by a bolster 3 of heavyrigid construction. The frame is supported adjacent its rear the frame. 1
Turnably mounted in connection with and under the bolster 3 is a turntable 5 having end by wheels 4 suitably mounted relative to transversely spaced; saddles 6-to which are clamped the axle of the frontfwheels 8. Ear straps 9 are attached to'theturntable I just above. the saddles, to" the jams-d nts of which straps are pivotally connected the v rear ends of forwardly extending bars'lO,
which converge toward I their forwardfiends and are connected together atrsuch ends. The bolster 3-has forwardly extending'and centrally located' ears 11' which form "the support 'for a transverse pin 12"onwhich zi s mounted a clevis 13LAdraWbar 14 pro jects forwardly from the cl'evis but is turn? ably mountedonqa substantially verti cal pin 15 passed through the drawbar and 'clevis at "the forward fend of the latter. The drawbar which is adapted" at its j for ward endyfor' connection to suitable draft means, is longer than the bars 10 and 'projects through a'yoke 16 secured to and pro e'cting 'upwardlyfronrsaid bars adjacent their forward ends.
' 'Itwill therefore be'seen meansjof this arrangementthe pull on the drawbaris transmittedhdirectly to the rigid bolster.
with the turning of the draft means, the/bars so that the implement willfbefl properly At'the same time when the drawbar turns steered. Since the drawbar has a downward I slant the pull thereonalways exertsa downward pull on the bolster and frame.
Extending transversely of the implement under, the frame and intermediate the front ,and rear wheels is a block 17 for supporting] a number of scarifier-teeth 18ywhich pro-q I ect through the block at a suitable forward angle to the ground. The teeth fit in slots '19 in the block, taperdrifts 20 being driven in the slots ahead of the teeth, there holding said teeth immovable. Besides the drafts however, the teeth are positively held against longitudinal movement, while enabling themto be longitudinally adjusted relative to the blockby a transverse rod or bolt 21 removably mounted in said block and engaging any one at a time of a number of vertically spaced and semi-circular notches 22 cut transversely in the back faces of the teeth.
