APPARATUS FOR ASSORTING COINS.
Original application filed April '7, 1925, Serial No. 21,407. Patent No. 1,554,140, dated September 15, 1925. Filed in Sweden December 16, 1924. Divided and this applicationfikd August 27, 1925.
Serial No. 52,876.
and from which the same are by means of.
diverting members, placed at successively decreasing height above the roll track, di
verted at different points. More particularly the invention relates to coin-assorting apparatus of the above-named kind in which the coins thus diverted are received by a number of glide plates which are provided with parallel flanges disposed at such dis tance from each other, that coins of a certain size may, with their edges resting upon said flanges, glide along the flanges, while coins of a smaller size drop down between the flanges.
An apparatus of that kind is described and shownin my patent application Ser. No. 21,407, filed onthe 7th April 1925, and terminating in the grant of Letters Patent No. 1,554,140 dated September 15, 1925; from which the present application is divided.
The main object of the invention is to -provide means to positively guide the coins diverted from the roll track to the glide plates. I
In order that the invention may be clearly understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a plan view on a larger scale of a portion of the roll track and two of the glide plates. Fig. 3 is a front view of the parts shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross-section along the line 44 in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a cross-section along the line 5-5 in Fig. 2.
In the drawing 1, 2 and 3 respectively denote endless transport bands which are adapted to forward the coins to be assorted from a plate or table 4 up to the upper end 5 of a roll'track 6. The transport bands which serve to separate the coins from each other before they are caused to drop down on the upper end of the roll tracl ,-are pan ticularly shown and described in my afore said Patent No. 1,554,140. r
The roll track or rail 6 which is fixed to the frame 7 of the apparatus is obliquely disposed in the direction of its length as well as laterally, as appears from the Figs. 3 and 4. At the lower edge of theroll track 6 L;
there. is provided a laterally projecting flange 8 upon which the coins dropped down from the transport band 3 roll down one by one. To the track or rail 6 there are in 'a known manner fixed a number of wedgeshaped diverting members 9 which are provided at successively decreasing heights above the flange 8 in such a manner, that coins of the largest size will at first be diverted from the flange 8 by the diverting member situated uppermost of the rail, thereafter by the next diverting member coins of next size, and so on.
The coins diverted from the rail or track 6 are caught by guiding members 10 each of which is adapted to guide the coins caught to an inclined glide plate or track 11.
The guiding members 10 may, consist of a plate 12 partly spiral shaped or turned about a quarter of a turn and placed in such a manner, that its end adjacent to the respective diverting member is situated about vertical while its other end is parallel to the respective guide plate 11. Preferably the guiding plates 12 are covered by covers 122 which together with the plates 12 form tunnel-shaped and in cross-section rectangular ducts. The guidingmembers 1O trans fer the coins caught in a rotating, vertical position to a gliding, horizontal position and. deliver the coins in that position to and upon the upper end of the glide plates 11.
The glide tracks or plates 11 are at their sides provided with upwardly projecting edges 13. To a part of their length they are provided with an elongated discharge slot 14 with such a lateral extension that within each of the edges 13 a narrow flange 15 is formed. The openings 14 are at the lower end of the glide plates provided with an en largement or coin discharge opening 16, and below these enlargements there are disposed a number of receptacles 17 for the coins. The glide plates are at their lower ends provided with an upwardly projecting flange 18.
The lateral extension of the openings 14 and the distance between the edges 13 are so chosen that such coins which are of a size corresponding to the size of that species of coin which is to be received by the receptacles 17 may, with their edges resting upon the flanges 15, glide over the openings 14 and drop down through the enlargement or coin discharge opening 16, while coins of a smaller size or deformed coins drop down through the discharge slots or openings 14;, as appears tromFig. 5, in which 19 denotes a coin dropping down.
hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with a coin conveying track upon which the coins are caused to roll and a glide plate angularly arranged relative to the track, a guide member of part spiral formation having one end substantially parallel to said track and its other end substantially parallel to said plate for receiving a coin rolling from said track and causing the same to assume sliding posi tion upon said plate.
2. The combination with a coin conveying track upon which the coins are caused to roll, a transversely horizontal inclined guide plate extending laterally from said track for guiding the coins to a receptacle, a funnel shaped guide duct having inlet and outlet openings, the inlet opening of said duct being arranged parallel to said guide plate for discharging the coins in a sliding position thereupon and a diverting member upon said track for causing the rolling coins to be diverted to the inlet opening of said duct.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
ANDERS WERNER SVENSON.
