ANNA WIDDOWS, OF AKRON, OHIO.
HAIR-CUTTING COMB.
Application filed December 28, 1926. Serial No. 157,478.-
This invention relates to hair cutting combs such as are used for bobbing hair.
The invention has for its chief object the provision of an improved comb with bladelike gaging teeth so formed as to be practically unbreakable.
Another object is to provide in combination with such a comb, a second comb movably mounted thereon for use in combing the hair outwardly between the gaging teeth.
The foregoing and other objects of the invention are obtained by the combs illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described below. It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific comb shown and described.
Of the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the improved comb in use;
Figure 2 is an clevation'o't' the comb;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig ure 2; 1
Figure 4 is a section on line 1-4- of Figure 2; and
Figure 5 is an elevation of a separate comb for use in place of the attached auxiliary comb shown :in the foregoing figures.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a handle formed with an extended shank 11 connecting a series of bladelike gaging teeth, 12, 12, formed with inner edges 13 adapted to fit against the back of a persons head andouter gaging edges 14: of a shape to provide a hair cut of any desired style, the edges 13 and 14 curving inwardly and downwardly and converging to points at their lower ends, whereby the hair at the nape of the neck can be cropped very close. By supporting blades 12 at their tops or widest portions, the bottoms may be pointed as desired and the comb is turthermore strengthened since the blades 13 are supported from their widest portions.
An auxiliary comb 15 may be movably attached to the above comb for use in combing the hair upwardly between the teeth 12. Accordingly, aslotted strip of sheet metal 16 is hinged onto the handle 10 and is curved downwardly and inwardly therefrom, the comb being provided with a pin 15 e11- gaged in the slot and having an enlarged head 15 thereon for retaining it in the slot,
auxiliary comb l9n1ay be employed instead ot' the attached comb 15.
In use, as illustrated in Figure 1, the comb is placed against the persons head; the comb 15 is utilized to comb the hair upwardly between teeth 12 and is then secured on hook 18. The cutting is then accomplished by operation of the scissors, clippers or other cutting devices against the gaging edges'l t of the teeth 12.
Modifications of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is z 1. The combination with a hair cutting comb having a shank and blade-like gaging teeth, of a slotted plate hinged onto the shank of the comb with the slot extending parallel to the teeth, an auxiliary comb arranged with teeth adapted to pass between the blade-like teeth of the first comb and having a pin thereon slidably engaged in said slotted plate, and means for securing the auxiliary comb to the shank.
2. The combination with a hair cutting comb having a shank and blade-like gaging teeth, of a slotted plate hinged onto the shank of the comb with the slot extending parallel to the teeth, and an auxiliary comb arranged with teeth adapted to pass between the blade-like teeth of the first comb and having a pin thereon slidably engaged in said slotted plate.
