The invention isa life boat which is provided with pontoons for preventing its capsizing and to assist persons in the water climbing into the boat, and foldable beams for holding the boat away from a larger boat.

The object of the invention is to provide a life boat that will stay afloat regardless of the weather or conditions.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a life boat having means by which per-.

sons in the water may readily climb into the boat.

A further object of theinvention is to provide a life boat having separate storage compartments.

And a still further object of the invention is to provide a safe and eflicient lite boat, which is of a simple and economical construction.

lVith these ends in view, the invention embodies a boat having air compartments in it and attached to it, storage compartments in it, a lamp, foldable pontocns, and toldable beams for holding it away from alarger boat.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal section.

Figure 3 is a cross sect-ion through the center of the boat.

In the drawings the boat is shown as it would be made wherein numeral 1 indicates the body of the boat, numeral 2 the pontoons and numeral 3 the foldable beams.

The body of the boat may be of any suitable type or made in any suitable manner. In the design shown in Figure 2, the body of the boat is hollow as indicated by the numeral 4, whereas in the design shown in Figure 3, the boat is solid. It is therefore understood that the boat may be made of any suitable material and provided with a sealed air compartment in its shell, or it may be made of any suitable material that will float. The boat may be provided with a rudder 5 at the rear, which may be of any suitable design, and arranged in any suitable manner. At the bottom of the boat are triangular shaped pontoons 6 and 7 as shown, which provide additional buoyancy for the boat. The forward end of the boat may be provided with a storage eompartment 8 which has a hinged cover '9 and at the stern is another similar compartment 10, which may also have a hinged cover as inclicated by the numeralll. The body of the boat may also be provided with a lamp 12 a which may be located in any suitable position and lighted by any suitable means.

At the sides of the boat are vertical members 18 and 1a to which the pontoons 2 are connected by hinges 15 and at the upper ends of the pontoons'are connections 16 by which the pontoons are connected to bars 17 and 18. The bars 17 and 18 are pivotally attached and the outer end of the bar 18is provided with an opening 1.9 through which it may be held to a clip 20 adjacent the upper ends of themembers 13 and 1 1. At the inner-end of the member 17 is a hook21 that may be placed through an eye 22 to hold the pontoon in the upward position. It will be observed that when this hook is released the pontoon may be lowered and when the bars 17 and 18 are straightened as shown in Figure 3, the upper end of the bar 18 may be held by a pin to the clip 20, and the pontoon will be held in a horizontal position.

and it will be observed that the pontoons may readily be lowered or the beams 3 opened when it is desired to use them to hold the boat away from a larger boat. It will also be observed that the particular arrangement of air compartments will keep One 7 lit? of the said boat, means for holding the said pent-eons in an upright position against the sidesof the boat, other means for holding the pontoons in an extended position and a plurality of transverse beams hinged to the upper edges of the said heat and adaptable to be folded in across the center of the boat and also to extend outward.
