This invention relates to stock pushers such as are used in lathes, screw machines, and the like, for feeding stock to the tools. lt provides a. construction wherein. the capacity of passage for the stock is kept as close to its maximum as possible and in which the stockripping elements are readily assembled and disassembled.
For a more complete understanding of this invention reference may be had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary section on line 3--3 of Figure 2.

Referring to these figures, 1 indicates a sleeve threaded as at 2 at one end for engagement with the usual pusher actuating sleeve (not shown) of the machine to which the pusher is to be applied. The sleeve 1 is provided with a pair of outwardly extending circumferential flanges 3 and l, the flange 4-, as shown, being of smaller external diameter than the flange 3 and positioned at the extreme end of the sleeve and spaced from the flange 3 to form a peripheral groove or channel 5 therebetween. Cooperating with the sleeve 1 are independent segmental stock-clamping elements 10, in the present case two 01 such elements being shown, which are formed to embrace and inter-fit externally with the flanged end of the sleeve 1. For this purpose each of these members is provided with a segmental groove 11 within which the flange 4 may fit, this groove being bounded adjacent the inner end of the element- 10 by an inwardly directed segmental flange 12 fitting within the groove or channel 5. The sleeve 1 also has an outwardly extending lug 13 positioned between the flanges 3 and l which passes within notches l-il formed in opposed 't'aces oi? the elements .10 at their inner ends, this construction preventing the elements 10 from axial rotation relative to the member l. The elements 10 are of reduced diameter be yond the end of the sleeve l through a portion of their length as shown at 15 and surrounding this portion of these elements may be positioned one or more spring rings 16. These spring rings serve to hold the elements 10 in interfltting engagement with the sleeve 1 and also to clamp the stock 1923. Serial No. 636,333.
passing therebetween and through the bore of the sleeve which may be of sufiicient diameter to pass the largest diameter stock which may be gripped by the clampingelements 10. These springs are retained in position by portion '17 of larger diameter adjacent the end of the clamping elements remote from the sleeve 1. If desired perforation 18 may be made through the flange portion 3 of the sleeve for the reception oi a pin, or other tool, when it is desired to unscrew the sleeve from its actuating member in the machine.
Having thus described an embodiment of this invention, it should be evident that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from its spirit or scope as defined by the appended claims.
I claim 1. A device of the class described comprismg a sleeve, and independent stock-clamping elements embracing and interlocking with said sleeve, said sleeve being of sufficient internal diameter to permit the passage of the largest stock gripped by said elements.
2. A device of the class described compri ing a sleeve, independent stock-clamping elements embracing said sleeve at one end, and means for holding said elements assembled with relation to said sleeve, said sleeve being of sutlicient internal diameter to permit the passage of the largest stock gripped by said elements.
8. A device of the class described comprising a sleeve having an outwardly extending flange at one end, clamping elements each having an internal recess fitting said flange, and a spring ring embracing said elements and holding them assembled with said sleeve.
l. A device of the class described comprising a sleeve having an outwardly extending flange at one end, segmental clamping elements each having an internal recess fitting said flange, and a spring ring embracing said elements and holding them assembled with said sleeve.

A device of the class described comprising a sleeve threaded at one end and having a pair of outwardly extending peripheral flanges spaced apart adjacent the opposite end, segmental clamping elements each having an internal segmental recess defined at one end of said element by an inwardly extending flange lilting the space between the flanges of said sleeve, the end flange of said sleeve fitting; into said recess, said elements having mating portions of reduced diameters, and spring rings embracing said elements at said reduced portions andhold ing said elements assembled with said sleeve, said sleeve having a lug between its flanges fitting between opposed faces ojlf said elc ments.
7. A device ol? the class described comprfsing a sleeve through which stock to be clamped may be passed, stock-clamping elements embracing and interlitting at one end with one end of said sleeve, and means for preventing relative axial rotation between said sleeve and elements.
8. A device of the class described coinpris ing a sleeve through which stool: to lie clamped may be passed, iinlependent stockclamping elements interlitting at one enirl with one end of said sleeve, and means for holding, said elements aesemliled with said sleeve.
