may be conveniently moved into open or closed position. f
An additional object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind embodying aV s hopper kProvided witha. valvecontrolled discharge spout together with means for sup-y porting a scale below the hopper so that the material or commodity discharged from the hopper into a bag may be readily and conveniently weighed.
i yThe invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my 1mproved bag filler whereby certain import-antl advantages are attained and the device ren- 'ZY dered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous vfor use,
as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. The novel features'of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
better understood, I will now proceed to describe the'k same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherem- Y Figure 1 is avertical sectional view taken through a bag filler constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional. View taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1, portions ofthe supporting legs being broken 4o away.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, H denotes a hopper of desired capacity.
provided with the. tapered bottom 1 leading to a depending spout 2l having its lower pory to 4facilitate the requisite illing'of a'bag.v
The hopper H is maintained at'desired height through the medium of the corner legs 3 preferably angle irons, and said legs 5" being provided therealong with the spaced openings 4t through which the rods v5 are adapted to be selectively disposed. These rods 5 support a table or ,platform 6 permitting a suitable weighing scale to be arranged below the hopper H, or more particularlythe spout 2zthereof, so that in practice the matevhave an end portion at all times disposed n i" In order that my invention maybe thel outV my in rial as discharged through the spout 2 into a bag may be readily and conveniently weighed. j
VvThe spout 2 is secured directly to and deau pends from the lower wall of a sheath or casing7, the upper wall of which being connected directly to the lower portionof the tapered bottom 1 of the hopper H. This sheath or casing 7 is relatively thin and its c.:
upperand lower walls have their central por# tions cut away in order to permit desired low from the hopper H out through the spout 2; v v j Snugly fitting within the sheath or casing o 7 is ak flat plate valve 8 whichywhen at the limit of its inward movement, shuts off the flow of the hopper contents through the spout 2. This plate valve is of a length to outwardly of the lsheath or casing 7 and said extended portion of the valve 8 is pivotally connected, as at 9, with an elongated operat ing `lever 10, one end portion of this lever 10 being pivotally connected as at 11, with 8o an inwardly disposed bracket 12 secured to one of the corner legs 3. Y
Uponl proper Amanipulation Vof the lever 11 flowof the hopper contents may be prevent- .ed or suchflow may be regulated as the requirements of practice may prefer. It is to be noted that the rear end of the sheetV 7 is open as at 7 in order topermit` y sugar or other small particles to pass out and thus vpreventing clogging of the valve 8 uo:
which wouldotherwiseinterfere with the effective closing thereof. f
-From the foregoing description it `is thought to be obvious that a bag filler con-y structed in accordance with my invention is of,
particularly well adapted for use by reason 4of the convenlence and facility withwhich it maybe assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of Vsome change and modification 1 withoutl departing from the principles and Vspirit thereof and. for this reason I do'not wishv to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation, of the several parts herein shown in carrying vention in practice except as hereinafter claimed. n'
I claim 1A bag filler comprising a hopper having a depending discharge spout in` communica tion therewith, supporting legs for the hop.-
per, aplatform supported by the legsbelow yc'sposed in said sheath for controlling the flow of the hopper content outJ through the spout, a lever operating n @horizontal plane,
connecting the lever with the valve whereby swinging ymovement of the lever imparts sliding movement to the valve.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ath); my
sj gn utu re.
means for pvotally connecting the same Y with one of the legs, and means for pvotally FRED J. CAMPAGNA.
