Description

Dec. 27, I927. 1,654,434
I A. T. SENEGAL DOOR CONTROLLING DEVICE FOR TRAPS Filed Dec. 27 1926 WlTNESS: I ATTORNEY PatentedDec. 27, 1927.
UNITED STATES AARGN TOWNSEND SENEGAL, OF ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS.
DOOR-CONTROLLIiN'G DEVICE FOR TRAPS.
Application filed December 27, 1926. Serial No. 157,264.
The object of this invention is to provide a fitting or attachment which may be Sold as an article of manufacture and which may be immediately attached to any suitable box, for the purpose of converting the latter into a box trap.
A further object is to provide a frame adapted to be attached to the side or end of a box in which an opening has been cut, this frame mounting a sliding door or gate, and being adapted to mount a combined door retaining and releasing" device and a bait mounting element, making it possible to construct the complete trap from any suitable box, in a very few minutes, and
without expert work of any description.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements described, illustrated and claimed, it being understood that modifications maybe made within the scope of the claims without departin from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming part of this application,
Figure 1 is a'view of the trap in vertical longitudinal section. V
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the door frame, constituting a part of the attachment, which together with the elements of Figures 3 and 4 will constitute the article of manufacture as it is'to be placed on the market, independently of the box.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the door or gate,
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing a plate to be hung on the inner side of the door frame, the lower ofiset pin, or projectin end of the wire, forming a trip for the door, and the longer portion of the wire forming a part of the bait retaining device of Figure 1.
As already indicated, any suitable box may be employed, and the attachment as sold is to be applied to the box by merely cutting anopening 10 in the frontwall 11 of the box. The top of the box is designated 12, the end which is left intact is shown at 13, and the bottom of the box is designated 14.
The elements of Figures 2, 3 and 4, constitute the article of manufacture as it is to be sold, and the door frame includes a main wall or board 15 on which are mounted channeled uides 16 and 17, the opposite side of the card carrying if desired, trans-' retaining device 35.
cured to the plate 28 by soldering, or otherand this movement will release the versely extending elements such as 18 and 19, at the ends thereof. lVithin the element 15 an opening is cut and this opening may be of circular form if desired, as shown at 20, a cutaway portion being provided at 21 beyond the limits defined by the circular edge portion of the opening. A pin or stop .32 limits the downward movement of the c oor.
The opening 20 in the door frame, and consequently the opening 10 in the box structure. is to be ,closed'by means of a door or gate 25, which may be of circular configuration, and which carries a central pin-26 means of which it may be raised manua y.
On the inner side of the door frame, which is secured to the front wall of the box by/ securing devices 27, I mount a door .retaining and releasing device and a bait holding device. the rumor portion of which is shown in Figure 4. A plate 28 is provided with an opening or key hole slot 29 for engagement with a pin30 on the inner side of the element 15 of the frame. A heavy wire or the like designated 31 is provided with a pointed end portion ,32 on which the bait is to be mounted, and a collar or the 1 like 33 prevents the bait from being forced too far along the wire. This wire-formin a part of member 31 is deflected at 34, and is again deflected to form the pin or door The portion3 i is sewise, and the element 35 projects from one surface of plate 28, and the remainder of the structure projects from the other side, as shown in Figure 4. 1
\Vhen the device of Figure 4, shown in complete form in Figure 1, is properly set so that it will be engaged by the door 25, the lower end or edge of which rests on the porjon 35, and when bait is applied at 32,
an extremely slight movement of the strip thus provided will cause the movement of plate 28, loosely suspended from in 30, oor 25, allowing it to fall by gravity. The element 31 with the tri 35 as a part thereof-,vwill also drop slightly (afterthe element 35 has been released), and this element will then pass across the upper edge of the door and act as a locking device; I
It will be observed that the successful operation of the attachment or fitting depends upon the sensitiveness of the door and trip. The shape of the door is such that no bind ing action can occur under any circumstunces and the construction of the retaining and releasing elements is such that there can seldom if ever be any failure to act promptly and effectively.
Having described the invention what is claimed-is:-
1. A door and door operating device for traps, comprising a frame having an opening therein, a slidable door for closing the opening, a detachabio plate mounted for rockingmovement with reference to the inner side of the door frame, and a. combined baitholder and door releasing and locking device carried by the plate.
2. A door and door operating device for traps. comprising a frame having an oprning therein, said frame being adapted to be mounted on the out-away wail of a, box, a
circular sliding door mounted in the frame for closing the opening and cutaway por traps, comprising;- :1 frznne having an open-- ing therein, said frame inrhiding guideways, a circular shdmg door mounted for movement in the guidewnyw, a plate niounted for movement with reference to the inner side of the door frznne, and a bait. holder and door releasing and locking device carried by the plate.
.ln testimony whereof I zuiix my signature.
AARON 'rownsnnn snnnoian.
