PATENT OFFER.
UNITED STATES CHBISTEN SEEBERG, F OSLO, NORWAY.
SKI BINDING.
Application filed January 25, 1927, Serial No. 163,320, and in Norway February 8, 1926.
My invention relates to a ski binding of the kind in which the toe part of the foot is fastened by aid of clamping members gripping the edge of the boot sole.
The object of my invention is to provide clan'iping members of this kind, swingingly connected to the rigid toe lugs themselves or to members hinged thereto, in such man- .ner as to ensure an eflicient clamping pres- .sure aga1nst the edge of the sole, allowing simultaneously the clamping member to roll along the rim of the sole without diminishing its clamping pressure, in such manner as to avoid undue strain on the interconnection between boot and sole.
In the accompanying drawings three different forms of the invention are illustrated.
Figs. 1 and 2 are a transverse sectional View and side View, respectively, of one form of the invention, and
Figs. 3 and 4 corresponding views of another form.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of a third form.
Referring now to Figs. 1 and 2, l is one of the rigid side lugs fastened to the ski, and 8 the clamping member clamping the edge of the boot sole to the ski,'swinging thereby about a bolt 2 on the outer side of the rigid lug 1, parallel to the same, the curved clamping face 4 being bent at right angles to the rest of theclamping member and extending inwards through a slot 5 arranged below the bolt 2 in the rigid toe lug 1. The sole of the boot is indicated in broken lines. It will be understood that the same arrangement is duplicated on the other side of the ski.
In the form illustrated in Figs. 3 and t the clamping piece is likewise on the outside of the lug l, but the bolt 2 serving as itsswinging fulcrum here is placed below the slot 5, and not above as in the preceding form, but this arrangement makes it necessary to make the curvature of the clamping face of a somewhat smaller radius than in the preceding form in order to enable it to roll along the edge of the sole during the up and down movement of the latter.
In the execntional form illustrated in Fig. 5 the clamping members 6 are not attached direct to the rigid lugs 1, but to the 7, which are interconnected by strops and attached to the rigid lugs l by aid of hinges as known from U. S. Patent No. 1,113,496, the swinging clamping members 6 being substituted for the rigid clamping lugs known from said patent. In order to enable the adjustment of the swinging clamping lugs 6 in conformity with the thickness of the projecting rims of the soles, the arms 7 are provided with two or more holes 9, into which the swinging bolt 8 of said clamping lugs may be inserted, according to the thickness of the sole. The clamping members 6 are illustrated as arranged on the inner side of the arms 7, but they may also if desired be placedon the outside of said arms, with their clamping faces inserted through slots as explained tor Figs. 1 to 4.
Claims:
1. In ski bindings having the toe part of the foot fastened to the foot by aid of clamping means gripping the edges of the boot soles, said clamping means being fastened to the rigid toe lugs of the sltis, the arrangement of clamping members turnably mounted on said rigid toe lugs and lraving curved clamping faces adapted to roll along said sole edges.
2. In ski bindings having the toe part oi the foot fastened to the foot by aid of clamping means gripping the edges of the boot soles, said clamping means being tastened to the rigid toe lugs of the skis, the arrangement of clamping members turnably mounted on said rigid toe lugs and haying curved clani 'iing. faces adapted to roll along said sole edges, said clamping members being suspended on the outside of said rigid toe lugs and reaching inwards through SlJtS in said lugs with their curred clamping faces.
3. I11 ski bindings having the toe part of the foot fastened to the foot by aid oi clamping means gripping the edges of the boot soles, said clamping means being ar ranged on clamping arms hinged to the rigid toe lugs of the ski, the arrangement of clamping members turnably suspended on said clamping arms and having curved clamping faces adapted to roll along said sole edges.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
