DISPLAY FOLDER.

The invention relates to new and useful improvements in folders, and more particularly to a folder wherein one part of the folder swings relative to the other.

8 An object of the invention is to provide a folder of the above type wherein a display object may be caused to move across the face of the main section of the folder when said sections are swung relative to each other.

The improved folder comprises two sections movable relative to each other, and these sections are preferably made movable by hingedly connecting one section tothe other, although the folder may be in one piece and creased so that one portion thereof can swing on the other. One of these sections, which will be referred to as the main section, is adapted to bear a display, and is provided with an opening. The other section will be referred to as a cover. The hinge between the two sections is in front of the rear edge of the cover, so that a portion of the cover projects in rear of the main section. This rearwardly projecting portion of the cover carries a bracket which is shaped so as to form an arm, and the end of the arm projects through an opening in the main section of the folder. The opening in the preferred form of the invention is a slot running at an angle to the axis of the hinge.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, my improved folder consists of a main section 1 and a cover section 2. These sections are preferably, made of paste board, cellu- When the sections loid or some other similar material, and the mam section 1 is creased or indented so as to form a hinge 3. The portion 4 of this main section in rear of the hinge 3 is secured to the cover section in any suitable way. This provides a folder consisting 'of a main section and a cover section, which sections swing about an axis back from the edge of the cover section, or, in other words, it provldes a cover section which projects in rear of the main section. This main section is provided with a suitable display. In the preferred form of the invention, the main section is also provided with a longitudinal slot 5, which runs in a direction at an angle tothe axis of the hinge 3. The cover section 2 is extended so as to form a bracket 6. This bracket 6.is provided with a projecting arm 7, the free end of which is bent so as to extend through the slot 5 as indicated at 8. The portion 9 of the arm extending through the slot is formed into the shape of some object, as for example, a ship, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This bracket 6 is in rear of the main sectionyand when the two sections are turned relative to each other, the bracket will turn about the end edge of the cover as the hinge and will cause the free end of the ship 9 tobe moved along the slot 5 from one end to the other, and thus give the appearance of a ship traveling along the surface of the sea which is displayed on the front part of the main section of the folder. It will readily be seen that the ship is caused to move by reason of the fact that the edge of the cover extending in rear of the main section with which the bracket is formed a part, will be moved relative to the main section, as said sections are swung one upon the other. It will be understood, of course, that the shaping of the portion 9 at the end of the arm may be varied according to what it is desired to display, and it is to be understood, therefore, that the invention broadly is not limited to the specific structure shown in Fig. '1, but the structure may be varied so as to indicate the movement of any desired object along the face of the main section of the folder.

In Figures 5 and 6 of the drawings, I have shown the folder used as an advertising folder to display a tire auge. The invention, however, may be used for other purposes than advertising, as for example, Christmas cards and the like, in which case, of course, the display and movable object will be made to suit the character of the use to which the folder is put. While I have shown in the drawings a folder made from two sections glued or otherwise secured together along one edge thereof, so as to provide a hinge at a distance in front of the rear edge of the cover, when open it will be understood that the folder may be made of a single piece of paste board, celluloid or the like, folded and creased so as to provide the two sections swinging one upon the other, but of course, the rearwardly projecting portion on one ofthe swinging sections is necessary in order to support the bracket back from the line where one section swings on the other, and thus produce a movement in the object carried by the bracket. While I prefer to use a longitudinal slot through which the end of the bracket may extend which carries the movable object, it will be understood, of course thatjhis slot may be shaped in any desired way, theonly essential feature being that there is an opening in the main section of the folder so that the object will be placed in front of the main section and move across the main section, while the means for moving it is in rear of the main section. Of course, it will be understood that this object may be caused to move in other directions than horizontal. Here again, the essential feature is the utilizing of a projecting portion of one of the movable sections when the sections are swung relative to each other for causing the arm to move relative to the main section of the folder and thus move the object on the face thereof. f

Having thus described the invention, what I-claim as new and desire to secure. by Letters-Patent, is-

1. A folder comprising a main section, a

A folder comprising a main section adapted to bear a display and having an opening extending lengthwise therewith, a cover section hinged to said main section and having a portion extending in rear of said hinge, a bracket connected to said extension of the cover portion and having a projecting arm, the free end of which extends through the opening in the main folder section and supporting a display object whereby when said folder sections are moved away from and toward each other, said disp y on the face of said main section.

3. A folder comprising a main section having a slot formed therein and adapted to bear a display, an auxiliary section hinged to said main section, said hinge being located in front of the rear edge of said auxiliary section, a bracket attached to the auxiliary section and located in rear of said main section, said bracket having a projecting portion adapted to pass through an main section and bearing an object on the end thereof, whereby when said sections are moved away from and toward each other, said object will be moved back and forth on the face of the main section.

4. A folder comprising a main section and a cover section secured together along one edge of the folder, said main section being creased so as to swing on a hinge relative to the cover section and so as to provide an extension of the cover section in rear of the main section and movable with the cover section, said main section having a slot extending at an angle to the axis of the hinge and also having a display on the front face thereof, said cover section having an integral bracket extension shaped to form a projecting arm, which arm extends through said slot in the main section, the free end of said arm being shaped to form an object, whereby when said coversection is swung relative to the main section, said object is moved back and forth over the face of the main section.
