'rooL HOLDER,
Ap'plication' filed' June'1 1 1925. Serial No. 36,358.
vision of a holder of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel, so thata tool when held therein can be: readily and easily adjusted, and likewise the manner of clamping the tool in said holder is novel, to assure the firm and secure clamping of said tool, when in use with the holder.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character,
which. is extremely simple in construction,
thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, enabling the tool to be quickly adjusted, and when setin said holderwill be firmly and securely fastened, strong, durable, and
- inexpensive to manufacture. i
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construct-ion, combination and arrangement of parts, I as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and.
pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
It is to be understood, however, that changes, variations and modifications may be made in the invention, such as come properly within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit. of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof. V 1
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1, is a side elevation of a tool holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2, is an edge elevation thereof.
Figure 3, is an end view of the same.
Figure 4:, is a sectional view taken on the line H of Figure 1, looking in the directions of the arrows. Similar reference charactersindicate cor.- responding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A, designates generally the body of the tool holder, which is of uniform thickness and width throughout its length, oneend of said body being beveled as at 5, while the opposite end is reversely beveled as 6, and at one corner is'a' lateral extension 7, which is for a purpose'presently described.
Formed inone side face of the body A, and disposeddiagonally thereof is a tool channel of groove 8, which opens through opposite'reversely beveled endsv of said body, this groove being of the same depth and width throughout the extent thereof, and in which is adapted to seat the tool to be used in the holder.
the holder at the working end thereof is formed a circular bolt opening 9, in which is received the bolt 10, the head 11, which is' held in a counter-sink, 12, therefor, while the bolt 10, is provided with a squared transverse passage 13, registering with the channel or groove 8, but of slightly greater size than the same, so'that a tool will freely pass through the passage 13, to be engaged in the said channel or groove for the seating of the tool therein.
The outer end of the bolt 10, is reduced at 14, and threaded at 15, to receive a nut 16, tapped thereon. The head 11, of the bolt in its edge is formed with a notch and likewise the wall of the counter-sink 12, is provided with a notch to accommodate a locking pin 17 deposited in the notches 18, in the respective head and counter-sink, and in this manner the bolt is held against rotating movement when the nut 16, is tightened or 2 formed with a flanged or ribbed end or edge 19, adapted to fit within a groove 20, formed in channeled face of the body A, at one side of said channel or groove 8, the lateral extension 7, being for the purpose of accommodating said groove 20, which is disposed angularly with respect to the groove or channel 8, as will be obvious. The flangeor rib engagement in the groove 20, prevents the clamping plate from turning on the bolt 10, the plate. 18, being formed with a recess 21,- for the larger portion of said bolt, and this plate worked downwardly by the nut 16, toward the body A, of the holder to firmly secure the tool in its adjusted position in the channel or groove 8, in said body.
The working end of the body A, of the In the other side. face of thebody A, of
holder flush with one side Wall of the channel or groove 8, therein is provided with a projection 22, which backs up the protruding portion of the tool beyond said working end of the holder.
The flanged or ribbed edge 19, of the clamping plate 18', give rigidity to the latter as will be apparent. The tool holder and the tool when placed therein is used in the ordinary well known manner.
\Vhat claimed is:
A tool holder of the kind described, m'nnprieing a member of uniform width and thickness having inversely beveled ends, a lateral extension at one end of the member, said member having a channel diagonally dis1)sed tlnfong'hout one face thereof and opening through the reversely beveled ends, said member further having a bolt-hole centered relative to the channel and opening 20 throng-h the same next to the extension, a headed bolt in the hole and having its head countersunk in the hole, said bolt having a squared opening aligning with the QlHUiTlGl and of greater size than the latter, means holiling the bolt against turningmovement, a. clamping plate surronlnling the bolt and having a side rib countersunk in the exten sion, the rib and countersink therefor being at an acute angle to the channel, a nut on the bolt and working againet the plate, and a projeetion on the member flush with. the side oi? the channel remote from the extension to bark up a tool '\\'hen within said channel.
