LIQUID-DISPENSING APPARATUS.
Application filed May 25, 1925.
This invention relates to liquid dispensing apparatus and it is an object of the invention to provide an apparatus of this kind en'ihodying a receptacle having a discharge nozzle in communication therewith together with means for adjusting said discharge nozzle with respect to the liquid level within the receptacle to regulate or control the amount of liquid discharged from the receptacle.
It is also an object of the invention to provide an apparatus of this kind comprising a receptacle and a discharge nozzle together with means for adjusting or removing the nozzle to selective variable positions with respect to the liquid level within the receptacle to effect the discharge from within the receptacle of a measured quantity of liquid.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved liquid dispensing apparatus whereby certain important advantages are attained andthe device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features olimy invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein F igure 1 is a view in front elevation of a liquid dispensing apparatus constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of the structure as shown in Figure 1 with certain of the parts in section;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view illustrating the means herein employed for maintaining the supporting means in its entirety for the nozzle in a predetermined position with respect to the liquid level within the receptacle.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, S denotes a stand upon which is adapt. ed to be supported a receptacle R adapted to contain a predetermined amount of liquid. The receptacle is of a conventional type and is provided at its upper portion with a han dle bail 1 and a normally closed filling open- Serial No. 111,579.

The post 1 is provided thercalong with a flat face 5 to hold against rotation the cross member 6 slidahly engaged with the post 1. All predetermined spaced points therealong the flat -face 5 oi the post it is provided with the normally projected spring stops 7 each of which being adapted to he received within an adjacent recess 8 formed in the post a so that the cross member 6 may be permitted to pass thereovcr.
The cross member 6 in one end portion thereof is provided with an upstanding t'rame S) with which is slidably engaged a lzlocl; 10 having movement in a vertical di rection. This block 10 carries a nozzle 11 which is in communication with the lower portion of the receptacle B through the medium of a flexible hose or tube 12.
To the opposite end portion of the cross member 6 is pivotally connected, as at let, the central portion of an elongated arm 15. One end portion of this arm 15 is operatively engaged through the medium of a link 16 with the block 10, while the opposite end portion ot' the arm 15 has applied thereto a weighted member 17 which serves to normally maintain the block 10 at the limit of its upward movement.
The pivoted portion of the arm 15 is provided with a pointer 18 coacting with the graduations 19 carried by the plate 20 suitably atlixed to the adjacent portion of the member 6, said graduations indicating fractions of the unit of liquid measure, such as a gallon. The plate 20 is provided inwardly of the graduations 19 with the openings 21 in which is adapted to be selectively inserted a pin 22. The inserted or applied pin 22 provides a stop with which the pointer 18 is adapted to contact to provide positive means for limiting the extent of downward movement of the end portion of the arm 15 with which the link 16 is engaged and ther by also positively limiting the extent of downward movement of the block 10 and the nozzle 11 carried thereby.
The extent of vertical movement of the block 10 is such to provide a discharge of liquid through the nozzle equal to a unit of measure when said block 10 is fully lowered with respect to the liquid level within the container. The fractions of such unit may be discharged in accordance with the extent of swinging movement of the arm 15 which may be readily determined through the medium of the pointer 18 and the graduations 19.
adjacent stops 7 are spaced apart a distance equal to that necessary to effect a dis charge of liquid equal to a unit of measure and when the cross member 6 is engaged with any one of the stops 7, tle nozzle 11 will be positioned slightly above the liquid level within the receptacle to prevent flow therethrough but as the block 10 together with the nozzle are lowered the discharge from-within the receptacle R through the nozzle 11 will be in accordancewith the extent of such downward movement.
When it is desired to refill the receptacle R, the hose or tube 12 may be uncoupled from either the nozzle 11 or from the receptacle R and in which event suitable means may be employed to close flow from within the receptacle- R or the tube 12 may be maintained in a position with its outer end above the top of the receptacle B. As these features in themselves constitute no particular-part of the present invention it is not believed a further description or illustration is necessary.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a liquid. dispensing apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim 1. A liiquid dispensing apparatus comprising, in combination, a receptacle zuiapted to contain a supply of liquid to be dispensed, a nozzle in communication with the lower portion of the receptacle. means for sup porting said nozzle for vertical mov ment independently of the receptacle, means for normally maintaining the nozzle at the limit of its upward movement, and additional means for adjusting the position of the nozzle with respect to the top of the receptacle.
A liquid dispensing apparatus comprising, in combination, a receptacle adapted to contain a supply of liquid to be dispensed, a nozzle in communication with the lower portion of the receptacle, a member, means for vertically adjusting the member with respect to the top of the receptacle, and a vertically adjustable element supported by the member and carrying the nozzle.
3. A liquid dispensing apparatus comprising, in combination, a receptacle adapted to contain a supply of liquid to be dispensed, a nozzle in communication with the lower portion of the receptacle, a member, means for vertically adjusting the member with respect to the top of the receptacle, vertically adjustable element supported by the member and carrying the nozzle, and means for nori'nally maintaining said element at the limitof its upward movement.
l. A liquid dispensing apparatus comprising, in combination, a receptacle adapted to contain a supply of liquid to be dispensed, a nozzle in communication with the lower portion of the receptacle, a member, means for vertically adjusting the member with respect to the top of the receptacle, a vertically adjustable element supported by the member and carrying the nozzle, and means for indicatingthe extent of downward movement of the element.
