IMPROVEMENT IN RElN-HOLDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,153, dated July 6, 1875; app ication file-(l August 18, 1874.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JAMES BULGER and NIoHoLAs Evans, of Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Rein-Holders, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of this invention relates to the construction of a device for holding the reins of a team when not held by the driver.

The invention consists in securing to the dash of a buggy or wagon a plate, from one end of which risesa standard,to which is properly journaled a lever, the lower end of which is provided with a curved arm, between'whic'h and the plate the reins are passed, as more fully hereinafter set forth. I

In the drawing, A represents a base-plate, having clips or upon the under side to embrace the da'sh-irons. At one end of the plate A is a standard, B, provided with a stud, b, upon which is journaled the lever 0, having at its lower end a curved bevel-faced arm, D. A spring, 0, is coiled around the stud b, and inclosed in a recess in the lever G, in such manner as to keep said lever in a perpendicular position.

By pressing outwardly upon the top of the lever, the lower part thereof will be thrown inwardly, when the reins should be placed between the arm D and plate A, the spring 0 forcing the lever back into position, and firmly grasping the reins.

We do not claim, broadly, the invention of a tilting arm acting as a cam to secure the reins, for the same has been used before.

What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of a plate, A, having clips a, and a standard, B, provided with a horizontal stud, b, and lever 0, having a horizontal toe, D, and a spring, 0, with the end board or dash-board of a Wagon to form a reinholder, all substantially as set forth.
