Application led lay 5, 1826, Serial 170.106,92?, and in Italy May 7, 1925.
The present invention relates to protect` ing goggles comprising adjustable means for connecting the two glass-carrymg frames and has for its object an ad]ustable means 5, for varying the spacing between the glasses of the oggle to suit the wearers eyes.
On t e annexed drawing is shown by way of example an embodiment of the present invention, and
Figure 1 is afragmentary front view of a goggle with the device accordlng to the present invention in locked condition;
Figure 2 is a transverse sect-lon on "lme 2-2 of Fig. 1; t
Figure 3 is a view similar to Flg. 1, wlth the device parts in released position;
Figure 4 is a transverse section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
As shown in said drawing, each of the frames 1-14 carrying the goggle glasses 1s pivotally connected with a stem 2-12 of conventional shape; one of said stems, as 2, is connected with a channel section part 3 having an end abutment 4, and the other stem 12 is connected with a part 13 adapted to slide within said channel section part 3 and under the abutment 4, and having a pin 5 adapted to engage said abutment 4.
The frames 1-14 are thus interconnected in such a manner as their respective distance may be modified atwill by causing the parts 3 and 13 to slide into or out of each other.
In. order to fasten the parts in the pre-v ferred position, a blade spring 6 is fastened 3a on the channel section part 3 said spring extending along and adjacent to said' part 3 over the part 13 and having a stud 7 intended to engage recesses or notches 8 provided in sliding part 13.
The side flanges of4 channel part 3 provide extensions or lugs 9 in which is pivoted a rectangular or nonc-ylindrical member 11 having a manipulating head 10, the shape and size of said member 11 being such as 1n a osition it leaves the spring 6 :free to rece e from said part 13 with its stud 7 released from recesses 8 of said part 13, while by rotating said member 11/by means of its head 10 through an angle, said blade 6 is forced towards the sliding part with its stud 7 engaged in one of recesses 8.
In practice, when the at face of the ro tary member 11 bears on the spring, said member cannot be shifted from said position a5 4without depressing the spring until the corner is enabled to move forward, and there- `fore the resiliency of the spring is to be part 13 is moved longitudinally into the channel section part 3 and then the member 11 is rotated through 90 to carry the parts to the position of Figures 1 and 2, in which the spring 6 is forced by edge of member 11 on the sliding part 13 with its stud 7 engaged in one of recesses 8 of channel part 3.
Of course the present invention is not restricted to the embodiment described and illustrated, the construction and arrangement of the parts being capable of modifications within the spirit of appended claims.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secureby United States Letters Patent 1s:-
1. A goggle comprising two frames for carrying transparent material, a first part connected with one of said frames, a secondA part connectedwith the other one of said frames, means providing a sliding engagement of said parts with each other, a resilient member connected with said first part and extending along the same, cooperating engaging means on`said resilient member and said second part, and a member mounted to rotate on said irst part and having noncircular shape with respect to its axis of rotation, said member cooperating with said resilient member to lock it in engagement with said second named part.
2. A goggle comprising two frames for carrying transparent material, a channel section part connected with one of said frames,
a part connected with the other one of said frames and adapted to slide in said channel part, a resilient member connected with said channel part and extending along the same, cooperating engaging means on said resilient member and sliding part, a member mounted to rotate on said first part andhaving non' circular shape with respect to its axis of rotation, said member cooperatingwith said resilient member to lock it in engagement with said sliding part.
3. A goggle comprising two frames for carrying transparent material; a first part connected with one of said frames, a sec ond part connected. with the other one of said frames, means providing a sliding engagement of said parts with each other, a resilient member connected with said first part and extending along the same, cooperating engaging means on said resilient member and said second part and a self-locking cam'member mounted to rotate adjacent said resilient member and adapted to lock it" in' engagement with said second named part. 1
4; A goggle comprising two frames for carrying ytransparent material, a rst part connected with one of said frames, a second part connected with the other one of said frames, means providing a sliding engagement of said parts with each other, a resilient member connected with said irst part and extending along the same, cooperating engaging means on said resilient member and said second part, and a member having rectangular cross section and mounted to rotate adjacent said resilient member, said recmame? tangularly cross-sectioned member being adapted'to be attached in a position to leave said resilient member free and to another position to lock said resilient member in en -gagement with said second named part.v
5. A goggle comprising two frames for carrying transparent material, a first part connected with one of said frames, a second part connected with the other one of said frames, means providing'a sliding engagement of said parts With each other, a spring blade connected with said first part, engaging means carried by said blade and adapted to engage cooperating engaging means of said second part, and a cam member mounted to rotate adjacent said blade and adapted to bring and maintain said engaging means of said blade and part in engagement with each other.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specificationn @RESTE FRANCHINI.
