IMPROVEMENT IN DRAW-BRIDGE FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,708, dated June 22, 1875; application filed Marches, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARROLL J. ATKINS, of Louisiana, in the county of Pike and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Draw-Bridge Fastening, of .which the following is a specification My invention has for its object to provide simple and efficient means whereby the engineer in charge of the machinery of the draw can readily fasten it to the rests and unfasten it. I propose to have spring-bolts on the draw, with sockets on the rests for these bolts to spring -into when they come to the holes, the bolts being connected by rods or chains with apparatus at the engineers stand, whereby he may set them to spring into the holes at the proper time, and also to draw them out, to disconnect the draw when it is to be moved. a

A represents the draw, turning on the center B, in the ordinary way, and by the ordina ry or any other approved machinery. 0 represents the rests with which the ends of the draw have to be fastened. D represents the the bolts for unfastening the draw;
to hold the bolts back, and K is a spring for causing the hooked lever to engage the other when it is pulled back.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with draw A and rests O O, of spring-actuated lock-bolts D D,.connected by chains with a winding-shaft, .G, as shown and described, whereby the bolts automatically lock the draw to the rests as the chain slaekens.
