BOILER AND ECONOMIZER ORGANIZATION.

My invention relates to a boiler and an economizer connected thereto in such a manner as to secure through their cooperatlve relation a maximum benefit from the heated products of combustion, which normally pass out of the furnace as waste heat. ObJGCt of the'invention is to provide means to produce a heated mediumfor a heating system quickly and without waiting for the entire mass of water in the boiler to warm'up toits normal operative temperature.
The intended novel features of construc- 'tion and design of my device will be hereinafter more fully described in the annexed specifications, recited in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals indicate the same structural parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. -1 is a side elevation of the hotwater and steam heat economizer of my invention illustrating the manner in which the same is connected with a hot water and steam furnace including both the hot water connections and the hot gas connections between the hot water furnace and the economizer.

The preferred embodiment of my invention and the method of securing the desired resultstherewith will now be pointed out as references are made to the several numerals in the respective figuresillustrating the device of my invention.
Among other successful arrangements by which intended results of my invention may be attained is an arrangement illustrated in the accompanying drawings whereby the hot water and steam heat economizer 1- (Fig. -l) is spaced from but operatively connected with a hot water furnace -2 by both hot water and hot gas connections.
Y A particular merit of my invention may be observed in the fact that flue pipe 3- of hot water and steam furnace -2 connects directly with the upper area of the gas cham ber'of the economizer 1 to which it carries the heated products of combustion from hot water or steam furnace 2. The hot gases, therefore, strike pipes 11 of the economizer at'the' top thereof, preferably immediately below drum 12.
In this manner it will be seen that the hot gases reaching chamber -10- from the hot water furnace 2 through flue pipe 3 reach this chamber when said gases are at a very high temperature and they arrive at the po nt where the first application may be most effectively made for the urpose of heating water rlslng in the pipes Just before the water or steam therefrom is ready to. be distributed throughout the heating system.
Every hot water system has a cold water return in the circulatingsystem a'da ted to return'the water after it is cooled to t e lowor portion of the boiler. This return pipe is not shown in Fig, 1 but a cold water pipe -:5- connects the lower area of the oiler 1n furnace -2 with lower water chamber --13 through which the cold wa ter entering the economizer through drum .-9 forming chamber -13 rises through hot water tubes -11 with an accelerating velocity until it reaches upper chamber 12 .from which it is distributed throu h pipe 6 and then through pipe 7 of t e hot water furnace.
'To those skilled in the art to which this economizer pertains it will be observed that this novel and eflicient as well as speedy method of heating and distributin water or steam in this manner is accomplis ed in the following 'way: When the gases from flue pipe forcibly enter chamber -10 accommodating the heated products of combustion they enter, the upper area thereof and can only move in one direction upon entering this chamber and that is downward;
and they move downward through heat Stratification; and'by actual test it has been shown that while these gases are settling downward in the gas chamber they gradually give up a great percentage of their heat before passing out of pipe 4- to the chimney. It will therefore be seen that while the gases through this process are gradually settling to a lower level in the economizer and giving up their heat as they settle and also settling because they are giving up their heat and getting cooler, the water in the meantime entering the bottom of chamber --13- gets its first application of heat as it reaches the level of the bottom of the gas chamber and economizer where the gases are at their lowest temperature and then as the water rises in the tubes to the level of the hotter gases it reaches its highest temperature substantially as it enters the hot water dome 12- before leaving the economizer as hot water or steam.
Attention is called to Figure 3- which exposes to view the up er and lower water chambers and their con iiecting water tubes. This is shown by the removal of jacket --1 which when secured into operative position forms the gas chamber about pipes 11-. This jacket is secured into place normally by bolts 15-.
This economizer is adapted to be supported on legs 14-.
To those skilled in the art it will be evident that certain changes might be made in the details of structure of my economizerinvention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure byLetters Patent is:
I claim:
The combination, witha relative large low pressure boiler of a fluefor'conducting the products of combustion therefrom, a relatively small economizer interposed in said flue and having an upper and a lower head and pipes connecting said heads, said flue comprising a section leading from the boiler to a point in the upper portion of the economizer adjacent said upper head, and a section leading to the stack from the economizer from a point adjacent the lower head, a pipe connecting the lower head of the economizer to the lower portion of a section of said boiler, an ofitake ipe leading from the upper portion of said iler, and a pipe connecting the upper head of said economizer to said ofltake In witness whereof zigdgseal this 16th day of J anuary, A.
