Application led June 12,
Thisinvention relates to a tongue supporting truck which is more particularly adapted for use wit-h agricultural machines. @ne of the objects of the present invention is to provide a simplified and generally improved form of fore truck.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combination of a vertically adjustable stub tongue with a swinging guide tongue providing differential steering kby reason of the factk that the connections between the stubtongue and the guide tongue and theV foretruck aXle are so arranged that when the angle 'between Athe guide tongue and the stub'tongue is varied intu'rning or due to deflections 'on account of side 4draft the angle of the vforetruck axle will have a. differential movement with respect to variationsin the angle' between the' stub tongue and the guide' tongue. In other words, considering the swinging guide tongue as a movable member of thepivoted combination the foretrucl; axle connected therewith will not move in unison with the swinging guide tongue according to Vmy improvedconstruction,A but there will be a dilierential movement imparted to the foretruck vaxle in relation to the swinging movement of the guide tongue and this movement ofthe foretruck axle will 'take place at a differential andacce'lerated speed i as the angle between the guide tongue and the stub tongue changes when the guide tongue is moved or deflected from its normaler right line position in relationlto the "stub tongue and as the relation of the guide and stub tongues is varied to restore them to the vright line normal position or relation the foretruclgr axlewvill move in the lreverse direction 'also ata diiierential speed.
A further object of the linvention is to provide an improved form of fore truck by means of which the relative adjustment of the machine' with respect to` the truck is accomplished in combination with the truck itself.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improvedv form. of truck yhavinga pivotal connection 'with thestlub tongue ofthe machine and through which the stub Atongue may berelatively vladjusted: with re;-
spect to the truck; A still further lobject of the* invention to providef` an improved forni of tongue 192.4. Serial No. 719,496.
truck. operatively related tothe tonen@ in such a manner that the angling of the'to'ngue with respect to the stub tonga@ Of thalliachine, angles the truck at a greater angle with respect to the stub ytongue than the angle of the tongue proper with respect to lthe stub tongue, thereby 'permitting the machine to be easily steered and overcoming to` a considerable extent the tendency of the side draftvof the machine to impart a turning. or side lashing movement'or strain to draft aniinalsor other means pulling the machine.
These and other objects are accomplished by providing a. construction'and arrangement of. the-.various parts inthe manner hereinafter described' and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
' Referring to the drawings, Figrl is a side elevational view of my improved form of fore truck. Y Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the f same,` f y Fig. 3 is a topnplan view of the fore truck shown in Figs. 1v `and 2.
Figs. 4 and 5 are top plan and side elevational views7 respectively,` of the swinging bracket to which the tongue is pivotally connected. 5
Fig. 6 is a diagrammatical view showing the manner in whichthe tongue truck is swung'atva greater angle with respect to the stub tongueY than the tongue proper is swung with respect 'to they stub tongue, and
Fig. 7 is an enlarged fragmentary view partlfy in section showing the pivotal conn'ection of the'truck and'stub tongue.
One of the features of my improved form of tongue supporting truck is the provision of a simplified structure in which the adjustment of the frame of the machine is accomplished'through the medium of Vthe fore truck 'and atv the same( time providing a construction in which the angling of the truck at` a; greater angl-e with respectgto the stub tongue than the angling of the tongue proper is accomplished without interfering with the vertical adjust-ment' of the stub tongue on the tongue truck.
In carrying out my invention l have shown the saine in connection with la stub tongue l0, which, it will be understood, may be connectedl to .any typel of agricultural machine which requires the adjustment of lil) tit)

In order to etl'ect an ndjuet'inent of the machine through the nndiuni o't the etnh tongue l0 or to eft'eet an :utjuetinont oflthe Stub tongue it) with rentrent to the truel; l here provided a, novel n'ieane which eoin prises a lever l-l pivotall)l mounted at 1:5 to a Support A-l-tl Secured to the stub tongue by means of a bolt 4f?. The lever Llll is provided lou llt)
Minnow LU v Leemans with'thev usual detent mechanism 48, which is adapted to lock'the lever in predetermined undercut recesses at ,their lower sides thereof,
as shown at 55. 'Ihese undercut recessed portions are adapted to engage a cap or head 56 formed on the upper end of the shaft 33. This cap or head 56 is formed in the'upper end of the shaft 33 by forming a peripheral groove 57 adjacent the upper end ofthe shaft. f
In the operation of the above described device, it will be understood thatk my `improved form of truck may be used in connection with various types of machines, but is particularly adapted for agricultural machines wherein it is necessary to support'the stub tongue or forward portion of themachine on a fore truck and in suchtypes of machines where it is necessary to adjust the machine with respect to the ground in order toadapt the machine for varying conditions. If it is necessary to raise the stub tongue 10 of the machine, the lever 44 is swung upwardly about its 'pivot 45 on the supporting member 46, which, in turn, causes the bearing member 12 to be elevated onthe shaft 33 'through the connection vof the free end 51 of the lever with the swivelling bracket 53, which is connected to the upper endof the shaft 33, as previously described. The swinging of the fore truck to Va greater angle than that through which the tongue 31 is swung is accomplished by the relative position of the shafts 33 and 43 with respect'to the pivot l? of the bracket 18. In the embodiment of the invention I have shown and described it will readily be noted that I have provided an extremely simple and eii'- cient fore truck in which I have combined the means for adjusting the stub tongue of the truck in combination with a tongue-actuated fore truck.
lVhile in the above specification I have described one embodiment which my invention may assume in practice, it will of course, be understood that various other forms or modifications may be made yand still be within the contemplationk of my invention.
