Description

Jul 12 192 y 7 E. P. MccLuRE HEAT D ISTRIBUTING PLATE FOR COOKING UTENSILS Filed sept. 15. 192s Patented UNITED STA ELMER P. MCOL'URE, OF WESTERN SPRIN July 12, 1927.
PRODUCTS COMPANY, OF LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS, .A CORPORAT Original application led January 28, 1926, SeralNo. 84,271.
GS, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T0 ALUMINUM ION OF ILLINOIS.
HEAT-DISTRIBUTING PLATE FOR COOKING UTENSILS.
september 15, 192s. serial No. 135,502.
This invention relates to a heat distributing plate for cooking utensils.
One of the objects of the invention is to prevent co burner on ncentration of heat from a gas the bottom of a cooking utensil in a relatively small area.
Another the composite plate.
Another object is to prevent warping of to provide a light supobject is port for cooking utensils which will retain the heat in Other ob the area covered by the utensil. jects, benefits and refinements will become apparent to persons skilled in the art from a consideration Vof the following description and drawings forming a part of this applic ation wherein Figure l is a plan view of one side of the plate.
Figure 2 is a diametric section thereof.
Figure 3 is a modification. Figure l is an enlarged fragment of a part of the perimeter of Figure 2.
In all of the views the same reference characters rl`his application indicate similar parts.
is a division from my copending application, Serial No. 84,271, filed January 28th, l926.
The devi ce consists essentially of two sheet metal disks 5 and 6, each having a' peripheral flange The disks are placed together, as shown with the flanges rextending laterally therefrom. Disks of asbestos 8, or like material, are placed tense heat between the disks to prevent infrom passing directly'from the burner to the bottom of the removable vessel before it has time to disseminate.
The thre e disks are then fastened together by a pluralityof rivets 9, or by use of a ring 1l) eX enclosing clearly in 1l are the tending around their perimeters,
the flanges 7-7, as shown more Figure ll. The annular edges n turned over the edges of the flanges to hold the ring and disks in place.
The disks 5 and 6 are provided with annular beads 12-12 to take up expansion due to excessive heat that may be applied to the base plate. the flanges Openings 13 are made through 7 to permit inert products of com- -Dvided and this application led bustion to escape. Openings 14 are made through each disk to permit escape of air or other gases that may be confined between the disks 5 and 6.
In the structure shown, either side of the plate may be turned towards the lire as it is conveniently reversible.
I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention.rv and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. Abase plate for cooking utensils comprising two metal disks placed side by side and each disk having an annular flange eX- Vtending in opposite directions therefrom, a
slow-heat-conducting disk between the metal disks, and means to fasten all of the disks together.
2. A base plate for prising two metal cooking utensils comdisks, having beads in their surfaces to compensate for expansion,
placed side by side and having flanges eX'- tending laterally in opposite directions from their perimeters, and disks together.
3. A base plate for 11163115 t0 SeCllle cooking utensils comprising two metal disks placed side by side and each disk having an annular flange eX- tending laterally in opposite directions therefrom, and a ring surrounding said flanges and having its edges turned over the edges .of said aligning flanges to hold the parts together.
4. A base plate for cooking utensils com prising two metal and each disk disks placed side by side having an annular flange extending laterally in opposite directions therefrom, and a ring surrounding both said flanges having its ed edges of said flanges,
flange.
ges vturned overv the and provided with vent .means extending through the ring and each In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name. v
ELMER P. MCCLURE.
