III/II IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII/ WITNEESE EL Wzii i daw- YHE GRAPHIC CO.PHOTO-LITH.39&.4'I PARK PLACE! Y NITED STATES PATENT Drrro MYRON HESTER, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,! 95, dated May 11, 1875; application filed September 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYRoN HESTER, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, have invented certain Improvements in Trunk-Buckles, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to an improved trunkbuckle; and it consists in the arrangement and combination of parts that will be more fully described hereafter.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
a represents the bed-plate, which has the ears b formed on its sides, for fastening it to the trunk. Between the two flanges c is pivoted the curved lever d, which lever has a slot, 6, through one end, through which the trunkstrap 9 passes. The pivot "5, upon which the lever turns, is placed at such a point that when the lower end of the lever is raised upward the upper end sinks down into the body, when the strap may be readily withdrawn. As the lower end of the lever is held closed by a wire loop or clasp, j, and as the slot through the upper end acts as a cam to prevent it from slipping, the strap is held as firmly and securely as it can be by an ordinary buckle, while it can be adjusted much more nicely and accurately.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- In a trunk-fastenin g, the combination of the body a, lever d, having the slot 0 through its upper end, and catch j, substantially as shown and described.
HYRON HESTER. Witnesses:
